Spectre711
I'm going to build this ESCI Canadair Mk.6 as Hartmann's ride in 1961. I just hope the kit decals hold up. Edited January 19, 2018 by Spectre711
tobiK
Oh, you are going nostalgic! Old times...when REVELL-ESCI made the racks in the hobby shops full of so many quarterscale kits. When the decals are not good anymore, I have just seen last weekend that a few airdoc F-86F Sabre decal sheets are still available. Not much, but less than 10 for sure. I look forward to see a plastic dinosaur become a model kit! :-)
Spectre711
Decals aren't all that much but the shipping could be. I know HaHen is pricey and expensive to ship to the states. AirDoc shows 19 Eur and Peddinghaus I can find for $25 US. I have some backup decals from Eagle Strike JG-72 or 73 to use if things really go bad. tobiK
Hm shipping internationally should not be more than 3,70€. It is for a letter up to 500 gr. I will come to airdoc shop in Erlangen soon. If you want I can catch it and send it to you. As a "Phantom Phan Club" Member I can get a bit discount. Just my offer... Or someone has decals left over from the Revell F-86F-40 kit no. 04562 (reboxed Hasegawa) and is willing to share!?
Spectre711
Wasn't thinking of the Hasegawa kit at all but I'm wondering how the white looks. I have a few 2012 boxings of the Revell kit and it only has 1 US choice on the decals. The ESCI kit has a few choices so I'm going to test a few that I'm not going to use. We will see how that goes first. When do you plan on visiting the shop?
Kingoalie
Nice subject! Looking forward to your progress. If all else fails you could cut white triangles out of white decal paper. It might be tedious but would probably work.
mingwin
indeed, nice subject choice! it'll also remembering me the goo-dold days!
tobiK
I will go to the airdoc shop april 18, next week.
Spectre711
Thanks but I think I'm good. I just sacrificed some of the Italian markings and they held together great. I also did some balancing by adding nose weight. Edited April 13, 2017 by Spectre711
Spectre711
So I haven't made much progress but I did some painting the other day and here is the fuselage.

Spectre711
Was in the mood so I randomly masked and painted some dark gray to panels and to just grub things up. Was thinking I might have to do something about the green. Edited August 8, 2017 by Spectre711
Spectre711
Looks like I have some rescribing to do
Spectre711
I think this looks a little better. I might get some silver on tomorrow.
Spectre711
I'm probably not going to complete this next week before vacation but I'm making progress again. Edited August 13, 2017 by Spectre711
Lancer512
Nice job on the BMF! What colors did you use for preshading and the silver finish?
Spectre711
Thanks, I just randomly went with gunship gray and black on the gray plastic. Used Testors MM Non-buffing aluminum. The panels with the gun barrel openings might get some darker metallic sprayed on it but I like most of it for now. I'm going to try Alcad next since this jar is almost empty. tobiK
The MM metalizers have a good reputation. So why not taking them? So far your Sabre looks good!
Spectre711
The way Testors is moving it might be just a matter of time before I have to find something else anyway. I also can't buy it locally so I should be exploring other avenues.
Spectre711
Starting to come around. Edited August 17, 2017 by Spectre711
Spectre711
I'm not taping out yet but I'm having trouble sitting at the bench putting on the decals. I pretty much busted my tail bone and I'm a bit uncomfortable. Here is where I am now.
tobiK
Awesome! Do not give up so soon...you got it almost! Well...maybe you blow up a tube for a scooter tire or a qualatex donut ballon to sit on...so your tail bone will have no pressure. hm hmm...just my 0,02€ to keep you on the workbench. (At least I try to motivate the GB members even I have to give up due to so many busy summer jobs :-(
