B2Blain
I thought we would never see any color on USMC/USN F-35s because of role the jet's radar absorbent paint plays in reducing the radar cross section. Until I ran across this pic of a F-35B in an operational - non RAG - squadron. So is this temporary or will we see more color on the USMC/USN F-35s? Not the best scheme in the world, but better than nothing. I believe that the F-35 reduced radar cross section is mainly from the frontal and rear aspect - so I would guess that a little color on the side fuselage and vertical stab would have little effect on stealth performance. https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5305/30062024846_fc82c8a1b3_b.jpg
Stephen
It might just be marked up for publicity/PR purposes at a show.

habu2
The red on the all-important inlet edges is the inlet cover, not paint on the inlet.

USAFsparkchaser
I have been wondering if the A version will get any kind of tail flashes. Even a subdued version, F-22's have tail flashes.
Dave Roof
It's the squadrons command jet. We don't waste time or funds just to paint something for PR purposes.
USAFsparkchaser
I am referring to Air Force versions, by tail flash I mean the stripe on top of Air Force jets tail sections. They are subdued on F-22's F-15/16 etc. have colored stripes sometimes with some kind of script on them. I see pictures of Elgin, Luke, Hill jets with no subdued stripes with "Gorillas" 58 FS, "Top Dogs" 61FS, "Rams" 34FS.
