Crazy Snap Captain
Hi there, I'm currently doing a 1/48 Tornado and it has a det chord moulded into the canopy. Any tips on how to paint these neatly? TIA.
Lancer512
Is it recessed? A pin wash with acrylic paint should do the trick. You can wipe off the excess after it is dry with a damp cloth soaked in airbrush cleaner.
Crazy Snap Captain
Lancer, no, its raised detail :(
dnl42
Do you have Parafilm? I would try to apply the parafilm, push it into the crevices with a cotton bud, cut out the cord detail, and then airbrush. This is one of the methods I use for canopies.
Bob Beary
If the canopy is dipped in Future you can carefully paint the det cord with ENAMEL and then use a small flat brush lightly moistened with mineral spirits to "cut in" or clean up the edges. It is a lot easier to clean back to the line than it is to paint out to the edges. I did this for the painted details in a wheel well and it worked great. Bob
Crazy Snap Captain
Thanks chaps. Will try out on a spare canopy I have.
Slartibartfast
Paint the det cord and let dry. Use a pointed toothpick to scrape the excess paint off the canopy. You might file a flat on the side of the tip to help. The wood won't scratch the plastic. Edited April 20, 2017 by Slartibartfast
