Weathering question

Recommended Posts

Am pondering how to weather the wings? Have faded the outer panels but was looking for opinions on inner wings, protected (by oil) Sea Blue? exhaust darkened? a mixture? Opinions techniques. Photo saved from somewhere some time ago-my thanks to the poster.

if you can figure out what causes the weathering over the inner section that would help to begin with.

if i had to make an educated guesstimate (read: b$) it's a combination of prop wash, smoke and any other fluids coupled with crew walking over there for whatever reason; you can use every available trick starting the base work with hairspray chipping causing lots of contrast in that area like flaked and scratched paint followed by patchy basecoat than sponge chipping for finer specks, discolortion via oil or airbrush (your choice), leaks and stains via oils and finally pigments and smoke soot the very last since they will be the most fresh/on top when compared to all the other effects.

all these multiple effects might require a very high contrast heavy handed applictaion with the initial paint job because as effects compound they'll eventually darken the underlying ones causing you to lose the work in the end, hence the need for contrast.
