VFA-132 Privateers

Recommended Posts

Hi, first of all, forgive me for my English, it isn't that good as it used to be... Now, about my problem... I've decided to finish one Hasegawa F/A-18 in 1/72 which was started by my brother and then left partialy assembled. Also, I've found in my stash decal sheet for F/A-18 VFA-132, AE 300, USS Forrestal early 90s with very interesting black anti glare. Now, since decal sheet suggests that it was A version and instructions suggests that it was C, I'm not sure which information is correct. After searching on internet, I haven't found answer because just like with decals somewhere I found that it was A version and somewhere it's C version... I'll be gratefull for any help. Once again, sorry for my English. Regards

The easiest way would be using the BuNo of the one you'd like to build. It's the 6 digit number near the horizontal tails.

Oh, and don't worry about your English, it is perfectly fine.

AFAIK VFA-132 never flew C-models. They were disestablished in 1992.

There are some nice pics of VFA-132 Hornets in the Verlinden Lock-On books on the Hornet and on USS Forrestal. Another good source of reference is the Concord title on the Forrestal Air Wing.

It is an "A" version. VFA-132 was part of the Airwing I was in at that time (CVW-13). We had just finished up the final cruise aboard the USS Coral Sea, where they operated "A" models, and they transferred over to Forrestal's  Airwing upon decommission of USS Coral Sea/CVW-13 in the early 90s.

Does anyone else think the CAG jet and 204 from 1990 is overall FS 36320? The lighter color of the stencils and the national insignia on the fuselage side push me to think this. Certainly quite unusual.
