Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
For those who don't know, I teach music in the Spanish barrios of Tucson, AZ's south side. I have a VERY unique performing group which is often in demand to perform in the city, namely our Handbells. Actually there are 2 groups, but I thought I'd show you the top group that goes places. They are 6th graders, 12 yrs old, most of whom I've taught since the age of 5 (kinder). Only 12 are accepted into this group each year from about 100 kids in their grade. Thought I'd share a couple of video clips made by my principal, from our Spring Concert last Thursday (18 May). We pride ourselves in doing music nobody would think of on bells, all of which I write/arrange for them. Can you recognize any of the songs in the three clips: 1) https://www.facebook.com/124213614341/videos/10154961141919342/ 2) https://www.facebook.com/124213614341/videos/10154961142224342/ 3) https://www.facebook.com/124213614341/videos/10154961142219342/ Hints: #1 is a fairly recent song, within the past 5 years. #2 is prime for the Baby Boomers. #3 should be recognizeable by metalheads of the late 80's/early 90's. Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
P.S. Here's a photo taken during the same concert of them wearing animal masks or ears, performing Ylvis' "The Fox," better known as "What Does The Fox Say?" (see the official song video and you'll understand the masks here) Pity that one wasn't caught on video, it was our closing piece! :) As I said before, we pride ourselves in doing the unusual, considering the instrument. Darren Roberts
I picked out "Stairway to Heaven", but I couldn't get the other two. Great job! I teach 4th grade and we just finished up the year. I can tell you we could use a group like this. Our 6th graders were horrible this year!
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Thanks Darren! Yep, #2 is Stairway to Heaven. I wish we had video of each song, complete...just clips. We actually get a couple invites each year that we have to turn down just due to scheduling. Once they performed out at the casino for a bunch of big-wig donors to the school district. My kids were in awe, they'd never seen vaulted ceilings that high before except in a gymnasium. And the crowd was blown away, too...one of the quotes we use from that one was "Everyone was amazed that these were elementary school students."

When I wrote that one up for bells the very thought of Metallica on handbells was stunning to all our audiences, and still is. :)
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Okay, #1 is "Happy", by Pharrell Williams. It was our opener. :)
