parche
CVN-77, CVW-8, VFA-31? Assuming article is correct about a single seater, BUSH is the one out with -8 (AJ) onboard, and Tomcatters is the single seat squadron... I could be horribly wrong as well... Dave Roof
Syrian aircraft don't have a whole lot of luck against the US Navy! VFA-31, VFA-37 and VFA-87 are the only single seat Hornet squadrons aboard the USS Bush at the moment. Unless 87 transitioned the E without anyone knowing, the shooter was from VFA-31. 'Felix Rules' does in fact apply in this case.

Not only that, but it seems the Su-22 specifically is the typical first-time course for each new USN fighter type!
DONG
It could have been VFA-87 as well they fly E's as well 37 still fly's C's. Don
phantom
Dong is right. VFA-87 traded in their old A+s a year or two ago. So either 31 or 87.
viper730
VFA-87 switched in 2015 according to seaforces.org

Actually, I was thinking of Libya when I mentioned the bad luck against the US Navy. Not quite sure how I managed to confuse Syria with Libya, but I am going to blame El Nino. Dave Roof
Ahh, I was not aware that 87 had transitioned to the Echo. Thanks for the correction and education.

Vaildog
What's the all time su-22 air to air loss record. It's got to be pretty brutal.

gtypecanare
What's up with CAG-8, looks like their Magic-8 ball has a thing for Su-22's. Edited June 28, 2017 by gtypecanare
echolmberg
Now I'm wondering if it was the hi-viz black tail, red tail or low viz. Sidewinder? AMRAAM?
Niels
Is it confirmed that it was VFA-31 who made the kill?
