Slartibartfast
An Oklahoma ANG Viper was lost during take-off from Ellington southeast of Houston when the pilot noted flames coming from a gas bag. He aborted his run but ejected to be sure. The plane careened off the runway and collapsed the gear. The engine kept running, and since it was armed with gun and missiles, nothing was done until fuel was exhausted. It looks repairable. midnightprowler
Ejected on the ground? Never heard of that. How high do the seats go?
phantom
It happens, we have a CF-18 (188761) that has been ejected from twice. Still in operation as far as I know.

As far as I know most modern ejection seats are zero/zero meaning zero speed and zero altitude. They eject high enough for the chute to deploy and get the pilot back safely. IAGeezer
August 1970 at Cedar Rapids. Lt Christensen punched out about halfway down the runway, and the ladies were havin' kittens! He was OK, but the airframe got foamed after it stopped. In the cornfield...

TaiidanTomcat
Harriers have special features because the aircraft may be zero airspeed and FALLING as well
