Great work on this so far! Im interested to know how you knew where to place the runway/ deck lights. I have been looking for ages for some kind of map or image that will show me where to place the fibres and not had much luck. Im also likely not looking in the right places.....

See my reply under the hangar deck decals thread.

Been a busy two weeks with taking care of other things so model time has been limited. I was able to get the hangar bay GSE tractors, Captains boat, and liberty launch together. Just need to do a little bit more detailing and decals. Next week I will be starting on the island.

CVN-70 Project - Starting on the island Drilling lots of holes to light up the numbers and adding LED's for the island rooms. The lighted 70 looks funky because the fibers still need trimming after I paint the walls. Over 50' of fiber optic just to light the numbers on one side of the island. Working on the other side next.

That's quite cool actually (the lit 70). Personally, I would go with a warm white LED as opposed to white for scale effect. Same with the bridge light - and also use a stronger resistor to bring the brightness down. The way it is currently, it's far too bright and if left as is it will look literally like an LED inside a bridge - not a nice subtle effect as it could be.

At any rate, I am enjoying watching you bring this together and your giving me some great ideas for my Enterprise when i get to it

This week I started working on the island. I ran all the fiber optic lines to light up the ship numbers and the yellow flood lights that light up the flight deck. Surprisingly I was able to get the lines routed with room to spare. I also modified the level for the Mk 95 NSSM director bays and added the LED light.

Yes the bridge LED's will be dimmer when completed. All the bridge LED's will be tied together and a resistor will be added to reduce brightness to the desired effect. I am also thinking about adding switches so I can turn off certain lights like the "70" so it looks like at sea night ops. That is why I added the yellow flood lights for the deck around the island. As for the "70", Once the fiber optic lines are trimmed the brightness will become a lot less. If you look at the flight deck pictures above the picture of the lighting before trimming is very bright. Then look at the picture with them trimmed you can see the brightness is reduced. Also the white "70" decal will cut down brightness as well.

Really nice! I´m looking forward to see what you are going to do with the aircraft!

Here is the first proof sheet of the decals for the aircraft. I will be doing all 86 aircraft that was aboard when the ship pulled out of Norfolk Virginia in March of 1983. Still need to do the decals for the A-6's as well as all the numbers for all the aircraft.

Are you sure you´ll have enough place on the boat to park and place all 86 aircraft? I once did a 1/700 TR Roosevelt and had to cut my numbers...

Here is a small article about it, it´s in german, but the pictures speak for themselves.

Yes, all 86 aircraft will be on the ship and there is a spot for each one. On the actual ship all 86 can fit in the hangar. I have been on it when they did it.

Started building and detailing the aircraft for the hangar bay. Adding the photoetched parts on a 1:350 aircraft takes some time. Planning on 28 aircraft staged on the hangar deck. So far eight of the A-7's are built. Plan is to build all, then paint all, and finally decal all.

I will not be adding weapons loads. Aircraft did not have weapons on them pulling out of Norfolk at the start of the cruise.

The PE parts are from Tom's Modelworks Aircraft sets 1 and 2.

I have the PE figures from Eduard and Tom's Modelworks. Have not decided if I am going to use them or not. After I get the hangar bays staged I will decide if I want figures or not.

I used a small trick to make my PE-crew figures "fat": I simply coated them with white glue. It gets clear when it has dried and gives them a more body-shaped apearance - at least in 1:700 scale.

I am just about done with the A-7's for the hangar deck. So in terms of time it takes about 3 hours per aircraft to build, detail, paint and decal. I sealed the decals and just need to install the canopies. Then start the F-14's. Here is a picture of the A-7's having decals put on.

I love it and can´t wait for the Dragon/Cyberhobby 1/700 USS Enterprise to show up.... Would love to build that!

Your A-7s look awesome, do you have some kind parking diagram for your hangar deck? When I did my "TR" I propably wasted a lot of space in the hangar deck when positioning them with too much space between them.
