sierrascale
Can I make a MiG-23BN out of the Trump MiG-23MF? I suppose you can do anything, but I want one reasonably accurate. I bought a MiG-23MF (in a MiG-23ML box, no less) off a guy a couple years ago and recently got the Cold War Studios' MiG-23BN upgrade, which has the complete new, accurate nose for the attack version. Don't know anything about MiG-23s, so need some help. Or does anyone want to trade a BN for an MF? Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Hey Bob, Hate to say, COMPLETELY different noses, not even remotely similar. A simple online search will show you very quickly how different they are. Basically the MF is the interceptor/fighter version with large radome for air search radar, etc. BN is the ground-attack version with NO huge radome, in fact a completely redesigned nose with a downward slant for attack visibility and a sort of "duck bill" at the tip. Floggerman
He mentioned the CW nose. With this it's possible, I'd say, at least MUCH better than Trumpy's BN. The BN is closer to M than to MF, depending on your desired level of accuracy you have to add/modify some smaller things. Don't forget the nose wheels! Well, I'm not a COMPLETE idiot, Andy, LOL. I know about the noses, that's why I mentioned that I have the Cold War Studios BN nose upgrade. Got that Saturday. SO the question is, Can I just stick the CWS BN nose on the front of the MiG-23MF? What about the intakes and exhaust? Are they different? DonSS3
It may be worth looking at the instructions to compare available parts for the two kits. MiG-23BN http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10341608

A year ago I couldn't tell one Spitfire variant from another, simply b/c it wasn't my area. Intakes fortunately are the same on all 23's, there's a good start there. No problem, Andy, I knew you meant well. Nice to know about the intakes, though, thanks. Already have decals for an Indian MiG-23BN and color pages ripped from a Koku-Fan showing InAF MiG-23BNs in the eighties. So I guess I'm good to go. Would you recommend a cockpit upgrade? Eduard? Laurent
Engine nozzle is different: - petals external in the MF: http://walkaround.rajce.idnes.cz/MiG-23MF_Flogger/#MiG-23MF_JP_001.jpg - internal petals in the BN: http://www.b-domke.de/AviationImages/Flogger/25798.html
MoFo
Using the CW nose will give you something that 'looks like a BN', however if you want it to be as accurate as possible, you'd still be better off starting with the BN kit. ML has exhaust petals (see pic); BN does not (see pic), for a start. There are also intake splitter differences, IIRC.

Quick google doesn't show any aftermarket BN exhausts, though. Hmmm. Bob

Thanks Mo, perhaps some ApoxySculpt would do the trick and smooth out the exhaust. Bob in Louisville.
Andreas Beck
Often forgotten: The BN had bigger nose wheels and thus the ldg gear doors were different.

So, the question is: does the Trumpeter BN kit have the bigger nose wheels/doors and exhaust without the petals? Bob

Trump/Hobby Boss normally doesn't change details between different version kits. Thanks for the info. Bob in Louisville
