What about a Fighters of San Antonio, TX? All kinds of options there.

I'll add my vote for the new San Antonio SEA jet in addition to this one.

Oh, the Sheppard T-38 in splinter scheme/skull and crossbones would be awesome too.

How about an A-4E/F Skyhawk sheet?  Tons of markings have not been done yet!

A-4E 152072 of VMA-322 Gamecocks of MAG-49, Det A, NAS South Weymouth. [Note that the QR and 52 on nose have a gold shadow.  This one's for you guys, Andy, 11Bee, & Hooker!]

And as suggested earlier:

I agree with Dutch about the A-4 markings, but might even suggest that the entire Post WW 2 era be revisited.  Decals which were done mostly by Microscale back in the 1970's & 80's for this period are mostly gone or new information has shown the markings to be inaccurate.  Examples of aircraft to be redone would be USAF F-4's post Viet Nam but before the 1980 change over to grays.  31st FW, 49th FW, 33rd FW and so on.  Same for USN and USMC subjects.  Did you know that for such a famous A-7 squadron VA-195 Dam Busters, their CAG Full color A-7's have been done over and over again, as have their low vis schemes, but their NON CAG squadron full color line birds have never been done from the 1970's.  I for one would be happy to put together research packages for you.  I've got some great F8F, F-84F, and A-7 materials I'd love to send you to look at.

I agree that an A-4E/F sheet is much needed, and I am collecting references for one. It will be the next A-4 sheet after the TA-4J sheet that is coming later this month.

I jsut realized I forgot to get back to your e-mail. I am definitely interested in the F8F, F-84F and A-7 stuff. I will send you an email tonight.

Thanks!

Thanks Kursad!  That gives me hope.  A few more A-4E/F subjects for you.

A-4E, 150001, QG-11, VMA-131, MARTD Willow Grove, PA circa 1974. [Note the yellow shadow on the QG tail lettering.]

A-4F, 154976, MB-10, VMA-142, NAS Jacksonville, FL circa 1976 [Note: this is a different arrangement of 13 stars (4/9) on the rudder than the A-4Ls

carried.]

VMA-142 A-4Ls carried the 13 stars in a 3/5/5 arrangement on the rudder. [Note: A-4L scheme already provided by Eagle Strike sheet 48033.]

A-4F, 154976, MB-10, VMA-142, NAS Jacksonville, FL circa 1980 [Note, same aircraft as above, but now with tan/brown agressor scheme. This scheme was included in a Monogram release of its A-4E/F kit, but not completely accurate. I have more & better color photos of this aircraft in this scheme that show more details.]

The other side of 154976 in the Agressor scheme. Notice the small "FLYING GAOTRS / JAX FLA MARINES" along the intake trunk. Also note the full color US insignia. All of which was completely missing from the Monogram kit release.

And a overall Lt Gull Gray MAG-49, Det A TA-4J. Note the white control surfaces, drop tanks and pylons, but the underside is definitely LGG.

And two more shots of A-4F 154976 of VMA-142 in Aggressor scheme with close up of the intake trunk titles.

001.JPG.cfa5d002506a1648eb6a0a111da0a700.JPG

Intake trunk title close-up.  This is definitely a stencil with gaps in the letters.  Reads: FLYING GATORS / JAX FLA MARINES.  (Note: The J in JAX has been oversprayed with brown color.)

Also note the color of the underside which appears to be either light or dark gull gray.  Based on the other photos above, I say light gull gray.  Oddly, the strike camera fitting under the port wing appears white, perhaps indicating a recent repair or replacement from fleet stocks.

This TA-4J has a white underside. You can see the demarcation line by the exhaust nozzle.

I dunno. I think I see a color demarcation line on that MAG-49, Det A TA-4J. Very low, but check right by the nozzle.🤔

And look at the forward fuselage.  Pylons, MERs/TERs/LAUs and drop tanks were not repainted in LGG immediately, hence the white LAU on the VMA-142 Aggressor.

And, if I am not mistaken, when they went to the overall gloss light gull gray, that included the control surfaces (ailerons, elevators, rudder). I think this TA-4J has a white bottom, just a very low demarcation line that isn't easily seen from this aspect.

Very possibly. "Often wrong, but seldom in doubt!" is my usual motto.

This F-16C is pretty great, what with all those mission markings.

An Air Force pilot in the static display area of an airshow several years ago told me that many squadrons had gone to painting on markings to represent each weapon dropped rather than each mission flown.  It'd be interesting to hear confirmation (or refutation) of that statement.

Kursad,

Some EURO 1 RF-4C's would be nice. Stumbled upon this one today:

10TRW 1TRS has been done earlier, but mostly 70's schemes and not this one from mid-80's 😉

Xtradecals did that scheme ages ago. It was awful! I second the idea, we definitely need more late USAF/ANG/AFRES mid-80’s photo Phantoms.

Yes. I used them a few years ago to build Starize. I wonder were they one of Xtradecals earliest sheets?

Yes they were awful, poorly printed, strange shapes to some of the code letters and with a yucky yellow milky adhesive. Ugh...
