The Madhatter
hi folks Yes, in your best Lego Movie, 80's Space dude's voice, it's time for: Spaceships!! After the Dragonfly, I thought I would go back to a tried and true WIP formula of Starships, but not your typical SW or ST subjects but some Space Battleship Yamato 2202! Yay As some of you know, I have built most of the Garmillian ships except a couple, got half way through the Gatlantis 'Wasp' Carrier before I ran out of steam (and I must get that finished) and now this - the Kongo Class ship of the Earth Defense Force. This will be the first of 3 ship builds over the next few months. Up after this will be the mighty Andromeda and then the Dreadnought! The Yunagi is a small ship - only 20cm long in total and 3cm wide but there is heaps of room for detailing - a task I thoroughly enjoy. I made a start on this about 3 weeks ago but put it down to start the Dragon Fly. Now that it's practically finished, I picked up the Yunagi again last night and got a fair bit of the lighting installed and some surface detail added. Still lots more to do but there is no time limit on it and I am in no rush. There are markings for 2 ships and of course, there are a total of 3 ships in the box. I am not sure I will get to the other 2 anytime soon as they don't appeal to me as much as this one does. Naturally, I won't be using the colour calls outs Bandai say because it's my ship and I'll do what I want with it So, enough blabbing, time for some pics: Well, that's all I have for now, but I shall be back again soon enough. As always, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
dekon70
Looking good, the added detail really makes it stand out.
The Madhatter
cheers dekon - most appreciated More updates soon
Silenoz
Is that a resin nose section that you added? Looks good so far...
The Madhatter
no - its the kit nose (typical Bandai tri-coloured molds ) and I have extended it slightly with some plastic tube. It does look resin though I agree
The Madhatter
Time for an update Spent a good solid few hours on this last night and accomplished a fair bit for a change. Got most of the surface detail sorted and will now look to get the lighting all sorted and final construction happening. It's a small kit so that are not that many pieces I'm going to try out a new method of painting using an extraction fan filter and see if I can't get a more mottled finish with it. In the mean time, here's what I managed to get done: Everything at the moment is just push held - nothing glued. Its one reason I love Bandai kits - half the time you don't even need glue!! Anyways, will leave it at that, but as always, thanks for looking Si
Silenoz
nice with all those added details... your topics finally made me decide to chase for one of these kits...
dekon70
Like I said before, great looking build. I can not wait for you to start the Andromeda.
The Madhatter
I am in two minds as to which to do first - the Andromeda or the Zvezda SD. I'm amped for both Time for an update. The surface detail is all done now and it's ready for painting! I will begin this process later this afternoon or tonight I've used Maskol for the main windows and exterior SMD's but will remove the window masks and put over a light covering of the base colour once everything else is done so I won't loose too much luminosity (at least - that's the plan) The engine nozzle is missing from the pics but it's there. I cut out a disc of frosted clear plastic to help disperse the light for the engine LED. Hope it works! More pics later As always, thanks for looking Si
The Madhatter
Last update now before the finish. Some paint has gone on and I am pretty happy with how its coming out so far. The details have blended in nicely and don't look too out of scale. I am altering the paint scheme just slightly by having a light grey underneath as opposed to a blue hue as the top will already be blue and I think blue and grey go together nicely. There will also be a bit of pale yellow trim in there too just to add some colour. The first coupe of shots were taken so I can remember where I stuck the panel tape on later otherwise I'll forget. That's it for now. The next post will be the final shots I think.I made a start on the much bigger Andromeda the other night, so I'll start a new thread for that later As always, thanks for looking Si
The Madhatter
OK , so maybe one more WIP pic as I had the camera out taking some snaps of the Andromeda, I thought I would quickly snap a couple off of the Yunagi ;D Anyways, that's enough for now, but thanks for looking Si
Dr. Brad
This is going to be great! Thanks for posting!
Silenoz
looking good, are those shades of purple and black?
The Madhatter
Almost. It's just darker shades of the base color sprayed through squares of extraction fan filter
dekon70
Your paint work looks fantastic.
Aigore
Looks fantastic, nice how all those small plastic bits are enhancing the overall feel of the ship!
The Madhatter
thanks guys well, it's pretty much all done now. Just need to take some day light pictures. The lights are playing funny buggers and now the main bridge light works but the engine light has stopped. Sometimes, I wonder why I even bother... Anywho, here's a couple of lit shots before the day shots: I have made a decent start on the Andromeda so pics soon As always, thanks for looking Si
The Madhatter
I got back from my mini-holiday this afternoon so managed to take some daylight pics. Ignore the stand - it's only there to support it until I can get a fleet base set up. And yes, I did just notice that the tail is a bit wonky. I will fix that shortly! ;D Well, that's it but as always, thanks for looking Si
