Bill Staudt
You know it, you love it, you can’t do without it, the Monogram 1/72 Phantom. This is my dual build F-4J (converted to an S), and F-4D. I had originally planned to do these for the upcoming Navy Legacy and Mig Killer group builds, but I got impatient. The -J will be converted to an -S using slats from the ESCI –E kit in my spares box. It won’t be 100% accurate, but should look the part. It will wear a TPS scheme from VF-103. The –D will be in Euro-1 from the 906TFW AFRES at Wright Patt. Decals will be pieced together from the spares box. These are fun builds, not looking to win any prizes or be spot-on accurate. Hope you like the build and pics! Edited August 30, 2017 by Bill Staudt
JackMan
I'm looking forward to seeing them! Great choice of schemes!

picknpluck
Cool! I'm building a Monogram J right now as well. This was my favorite kit as a kid and I built several, and I'm still enjoying it.
Bill Staudt
Thanks!! I got a some primer on today. They need a little more work around the intakes, but things are coming along nicely. I'm pretty happy with the slats on the -S. picknpluck
Looking good! Are you going to do the wingtip ECM blisters on the S?
Bill Staudt
No, the slats and intake ECM antennae are the extent of the conversion. If it weren't for the spares-box parts I probably wouldn't have done that much. Just some fun builds to clear out some accumulated kits /parts /decals.

picknpluck
What colors did you use? It looks lighter than the typical Medium Grey/Dark Ghost Grey/Light Ghost Grey.

picknpluck
It looks right to me, based on the pics I've seen of VF-103 birds in TPS. What did you end up using for your colors? I'd like to file your technique away for a future build.
Grey Ghost 531
Very nice builds on two very underrated kits.
