DraganChe
Hello friends, I need help from P-51 experts about it's wing on "D" variant. I reserached all around internet and books but I am afraid that my resources are weak at that quastion. Let me get to the point. Question is: Does every P-51D airframe had primed wings all over it, that the rivets are practicly invisible? I am asking this becasue I plan to build "Blondie" in 1/32 scale from Tamiya, but I will be so sorry if I need to destroy such a beautifull rivets on wings surfaces. Thank you, Dragan, Serbia. dnl42
The rivets were puttied over to make the surface smooth, so a laminar flow could be achieved. This reduced drag, enabling higher speeds. Take a look at this post to see what the wing should look like.
