blakeh1
That looks fantastic! Sure is a lot better than the stock nozzle and lighting kit Edited January 1, 2018 by blakeh1
The Madhatter
thanks Blake - Yeah, it's not hard to see why I wasn't that impressed with the kit one I have been asked a couple of times to take some extra pictures of what it looks like from the inside. Well, I had everything out today so I took a couple of pictures to show how it all gets wired up. From the outside: inside: I hope that helps you. If you have any questions, please ask Si Edited January 2, 2018 by The Madhatter
The Madhatter
I had the camera out today so I took a couple of shots to show you what the engine looks like. I am happy with it. It looks much better than the kit version (IMO) Still lots more surface work to do yet. Stay tuned
Tecko
That is looking so cool. You are doing such a great job. Thanks for showing. It's very inspirational for me. Thanks.

The Madhatter
Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get some work done on it soon. A mini holiday is just what I needed
The Madhatter
Hi guys and girls Time for a mini update. Sorry it's taken so long to show anything but I haven't had a lot of build time lately. Here's what I have done so far. I have begun to detail the top plate and that's pretty much all done now - just need to install it which I will do later once the super structure is done. I'll be starting on that piece tonight hopefully. Aft end: Looking forward: Start of the surface details: Underneath - which as you'll see had a slight issue with deformed engine bells and there is zero I can do about it: And finally, a full lighting test (just to make sure I haven't screwed something up as usual): So, that's all I have for now but it's all coming along nicely now and I am hoping to have this done in the next few weeks ready for Expo As always, thanks for looking in Si
Tecko
It's looking REALLY awesome. Looking forward to seeing more of your progress. Thanks for sharing.
The Madhatter
thanks dude. Happy to share Edited January 30, 2018 by The Madhatter
Ikon
Always great seeing those intricate little touches! The lights are making it pop too.
blakeh1
Amazing stuff! Like the other Yamato series stuff you have done, those added details really help with a sense of scale Now I wish I didn't just build mine out of the box
The Madhatter
thanks guys - I appreciate the kind comments I tell you Blake, sometimes, I really do wish I could build something OOB and not have to add extra detail or lighting to something like this. I I am a bit OCD in that respect and it's not always a good thing. It's draining and time & mojo consuming. The end result is sometimes not what I hope for On the flip side, sometimes it's more than I had hoped for! It's a bit early to tell which category this ship will fall into but so far, it's the later. At any rate, thanks for stopping in a watching. I hope it gives you some ideas for another time Si
The Madhatter
wow - it's been a long time since I last updated this build thread but then I haven't been working on it much due to other commitments/builds. However, I am aiming to get this done for Expo in June, so I have picked it up again in the hope of just getting it done. I've also picked up the Garmillas set 2 and 3 and I am chomping at the bit to start set 3 as it has the best looking ship of the Garmilla fleet in my opinion. I'll consider doing a WIP thread for that one when I start it Back to the Andromeda, all the lighting is installed and working and now it's time to finish off the surface detailing. I haven't lit the Wave Gun because I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle. I lit the Yamato WG and I can count how many times i have used it on one hand since it was finished. Surprisingly, I have had to use a fair amount of putty to fill in the gaps. Thank goodness for the Perfect Plastic Putty product as it cleans up with water and cotton buds really easily. Its a great product and I highly recommend it. Time for some pics Well, that's all for now. Hopefully, the next update will either be the last one or the finished item. I'm looking to do a fleet display with this , the Yunagi and also a destroyer. Maybe even a Garmilla ship too. Thanks for looking Si
Ikon
As always, some fantastic work from bow to stern! I love the little detail parts tucked into the corners and it's a shame you can't cast copies of that engine. Anxiously awaiting the end!
The Madhatter
Thanks thom Unfortunately, the petals on the nozzle wouldn't stand up to casting as they are very thin, otherwise I would look into that. Si
Ikon
I was just about to start working on one of my Andies when I saw this... It's the new frigate from the latest trailer. I was thinking of ways to add extra guns to my Andromeda, which is to be named Antlantia, but now I think I'll wait until these come out and resin/copy the guns for that. The Madhatter
oooooh - that looks interesting. I like that set of forward guns underneath for some reason - they look right some how. I reckon that's some of what makes some of these ships look vulnerable to attack underneath. They all lack some protection on their undersides. Some extra fins wouldn't go amiss either Are those drawings to scale? If so, they're pretty small but they'd be quick with plenty of firepower.
Ikon
I believe this is to scale. It is on the smaller size. I'm wondering if this is a new interpretation of the older Yuunagi patrol cruiser or the smaller frigate? It seems to have elements of both. Either way when (if) they come out with a kit, its guns should work good as secondaries on the larger ships.
The Madhatter
I would have thought there would be more of a Garmilla influence given the EDF and Garmilla joined forces. I can see what you mean about the Yuunagi aspect - especially with that lower intake .

It's a straight copy of the frigate from the original series. Here's the 1970's version of the model kit:
The Madhatter
Your quite right - it isn't very far removed at all from the original. Well, I had the camera out today so I thought I'd snap a few pics of where I am with the Andromeda. It's almost ready for paint. I just need to add some details to the bottom and then it's all ready for painting. I'm pretty happy with how it's coming out. I know some people don't like 'borgifying' clean lines, but that's OK. That's all I have for now but I think it'll pass as an update Thanks for looking Si
Els
All the little details on your kits look so good it is almost a shame to paint over them. It reminds me of a ship that has just come out of refurb/overhaul. I wish I had that kind of patience. Els
The Madhatter
thanks mate. I think you just as much patience as I do - I've seen your work. You have some alright
blakeh1
Wow, all those added details really make a difference, especially in helping convey a sense of scale it reminds me of how the Yukikaze looks up close vs the smooth almost detail less hull of the models I would really like to spend more time detailing them
