In Part 3 we finish and install the cockpit into the fuselage. We close the two fuselages together and we sand the joints and rescribe any lost detail. Finally, we glued together the nose cone so everything is ready for final assembly in Part 4.

In Part 5 of the step by step build of Trumpeter’s 1/48 Mig-27M Flogger J we put together the landing gear main parts.

After adding the final details such as the air brakes and a small amount of filler on the tail fin it is about time to check if everything is ok under a coat of primer Mr Surfacer 1200. Followed by pre-shading and highlights using Tamiya paints

In Part 6 of the step by step build of Trumpeter’s 1/48 Mig-27M Flogger J we get on with painting. We opt for a Russian plane from the Afghanistan war

We used Mr Color Gunze paints and apply the camouflage free hand using the Harder and Steenbeck Infinity airbrush.

In Part 7 of the step by step build of Trumpeter’s 1/48 Mig-27M Flogger J we are preparing the bombs and we are trying to give them a weathered dirty look using oils and dark washes using AK Interactive Paneliner

Finally, we apply all the decals on the plane using Tamiya Decal Fit Strong as the decal setting solution.

Part 8 of the step by step build of Trumpeter’s 1/48 Mig-27M Flogger J is now on my YouTube channel

In Part 8 of the step by step build of Trumpeter’s 1/48 Mig-27M Flogger J we proceed with the weathering. The intention was to present a plane that saw a lot of action during the Afghanistan war.

The weathering took place in three steps:
Step 1: Chipping. With a small brush and lighter paint shade than the base one we applied small chips on the edges of selected panels
Step 2: Wash. Application of Flory was to blend all previous steps together.
Step 3: Fade base color. With oil colours of ochre and white we faded the forward edges of selected panels
Step 4: Oil filters.

Very nice models so far. I have one question, though. Do you have any reference photos of those MiGs? Stars and Bort numbers normally fade slower than the camouflage. MiG-27Ms arrived to Afghanistan rather new, as well, so fading would be really uncommon. This question is not meant to be a critique, but I just wonder as it happened recently with the Su-27SM in the 2-tone blue camo from Lipetsk, where the exact same insignia faded really quick. I haven't seen anything like it on 23/27s from Afghanistan, yet.

Thank you for posting this very informative build video series. I especially like your weathering techniques that you used with artists oils. Perhaps in future videos you could spend a little more time showing them in a bit more detail.  I have this kit in my stash and I'm gonna be building it soon! Please keep the video's coming!
