john53
Is there any good clear pictures of the RF-101C Voodoo's "tail hook"? I know it was a flat bar that ran between the engines and was roughly anchored just where the body ended and the burner cans started. From what I can see it looks to be bowed away from the fuselage bottom, almost like a pre bowed piece of flat spring steel. It looks to start roughly by 2 NACA vents on the rear fuselage. Ben Brown
PM sent. The hook was the same as the one fitted to the F-101B, just spring steel with a hook on the end, but it mounted slightly farther forward on the single-seaters. It bolted to the structure that forms the panel line a few inches aft of the NACA ducts. It was indeed pre-bowed, so it would hold the hook on the runway when released, so it would engage the barrier cable. Cheers! Ben
