Tamiya X-22 questions

Recommended Posts

In my experiments so far, stand-alone X-22 at 50% MT seems to spray a very nice clear coat for me.  Now I'm going to try the Micro Sol/Set technique and see how if I can be more successful in the decal stage.  Thanks for all the help.

That was a fantastic step-by-step topic by Chuck!

Don't know when Tamiya made that statement, but they're wrong about the scope of their own product. It's one of the best gloss clear Acrylics I've ever used.  it may have been originally formulated as an additive, but it turned out to be just that much more as a stand alone product.

Hi Guys

Just to clear up the confusion over the use of X-22 and when to use it I sent and e.mail to Tamiya

And this is what they replied

X-22 Clear Gloss is to be used as an additive to make a matt paint glossy.
Use TS-13 Gloss Clear as an overcoat if you desire that kind of application.
Flat, semi-gloss, and pearl clear sprays are available.

And yet as Joel says, it's works wonderfully as a standalone acrylic gloss........

IMHO it's the easiest gloss to apply bar none, I used to thin it will levelling thinners but now I get the same results with GP thinners.

FluffyK,

I read the link. What I said if you bothered to read all of it is that it's the best acrylic clear gloss I, and a lot of other modelers have used to date.  I also repeated the original intent of the Tamiya product as an additive.

I love Tamiya X-22 clear gloss. I thin it using Tamiya's X-20A thinner, or methylated spirit (denature alcohol) @ 1:1 ratio before airbrushing. I always use this clear gloss for my pre-decal gloss coat.
