Coke will remove the chrome. BUT, you also need to remove a clear coat, which the Coke was no match for. Had to use Simple Green for that. If there's a next time, I'll use it right away.

If the chrome parts are from a standard kit you could try household bleach. Works like a charm and not as bad as oven cleaner. Have some of that Castrol Super Clean but have not used it as yet since the bleach works for me.

If you have a Dollar General near you, they have something called Totally Awesome! Found with the cleaning chemicals. I use this stuff all the time and it's pretty good at stripping chrome as well as the clearcoat. I have only been able to find it at dollar general, though. Also works well stripping paint.

anything with ammonia should work. I soaked a silver plated p-47 in some knock off windex glass cleaner and within a few hours it was good to go. I got my bottle for $1 at a dollar tree store it was a maybe a 28oz bottle so apx. $5 a gallon
