Viperguy
Who makes the best paint to simulate silver aluminum dope on natural metal jets?
airmechaja
Silver dope was used on fabric covered planes not NMF planes. It was clear dope mixed with aluminum particles.
Grey Ghost 531
But some aircraft did use silver lacquer over the metal structure of the aircraft. Any "aluminum" paint would work to replicate this. It's tougher to make aluminum paint look like bare metal than it is to make aluminum paint look like aluminum paint. If you can find some Floquil "Old Silver", that's the best I think, Too bad they don't make it any more, but you still may be able to find some in out of the way corners. A model railroad shop would be a great place to look. I've found some materials and useful tools, so it's worth a look.
Paul Boyer
My favorite for aluminum-lacquer-painted aircraft has been Testor non-buffing aluminum with a clear gloss coat over that. I've been experimenting with several of the Alclad lacquers, and I'll likely find one of them which will be good for this as well.
Viperguy
I happen to have two unopened bottles of Old Silver. Just don't like the strong lacquer smell.
