86Sabreboy1
A variety of unlimited air racers, from the Bud lite Super Corsair, to the RB-51 "Red Baron" to the purpose built Tsunami are now or soon to be available in multiple scales thanks to Civilized Models. I've had the pleasure of meeting Gary of Civilized Models who opened for business earlier this year just a few weeks prior to the Unlimited Air Races in Reno, NV. He is literally a one man business trying to fill a badly under serviced segment of aircraft model building. Civilized models is providing air racing subjects in three scales, 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scale with an impressive amount of accuracy as well as some other civilian aircraft such as Pitt Specials and BD-5s. He has a passion for air racing and is very knowledgeable on the specific aircraft that have raced over the years. For those of you who are familiar with many of the historical air racers are probably aware of the various modifications and and changes these aircraft have had through over the course of their respective histories. Civilized Models has gone to the effort to provide specific kits of these aircraft with the appropriate modifications and decal markings for a particular time period or event for that particular aircraft's history. I can say accuracy is foremost when it comes to the effort of creating these kits. These kits are resin cast with vac form clear parts and metal landing (and related) assemblies where appropriate. There is some clean up necessary from the casting process and generally parts fit together nicely. These kits however are not shake and bake like a Tamiya kit. They do require a degree of model building skill and effort to make into a show quality model. Given this is a one man operation these comments are not intended to be critical of the product but to provide an honest evaluation and how it may relate to your model building skills and if you are up to the challenges that are inherent of most mixed media kits. Civilized Models can be found on Facebook. Gary posts with updates on a regular basis when new products are available or if he's offering a pre-sale discount opportunity. Also he's communicated in good faith when there's been a production delay on a kit and keeps his consumers up to date. Sometimes things do happen when casting resin so give the guy a break if you don't get your kit as soon as you would like. He will get it to you.
