phantom
On the next day off I am going to start this one up. Academy F-4J with Furball decals. Been wanting this one on the shelf for years. Did it in 1/72 years ago using spares from a Tomcat sheet. But of course the correct decals for the correct plane will of course look better. Debating doing the VF-102 scheme at the same time.....We'll see. Edited December 23, 2017 by phantom
picknpluck
I'll be curious how quick you get this one together. It's a lot more complex than the Hasegawa kit.

phantom
Oh its still in the condition of the above photo. Dang 12 hour shifts drain ya. But..........I should have at least 2 hours tomorrow....I hope.. I have been looking at turning a Academy C into a J. Most of the parts are there.......Hasegawa spares might be needed for the pylons. But I might just do two at once.........Maybe a Marine, maybe VF-102.
phantom
Did not get much modelling time today after all. Used the new Furball decals for the pits. Decided to go with a B, OOB so far I think I am going with VMFA-314. Might use the kit decals even though I have excellent after market ones too.
tosouthern66
Looking sweet Phantom! The only modeling I have been able to do is paint on a 70 Hemi Cuda. I may try and take it to a show in February. I don't think I can make it good enough for a contest but we shall see. The paint laid down smooth and glossy for a change. That is my normal pitfall! Can't wait to see more of your build. Need to work on my VFA-151 F/A-18A kit. It is painted just need to touch up a couple small areas then gloss it.
phantom
Just thought of something. I think VMFA -314 would also still qualify for this group build. So BOTH Phantoms are being done for it. Have family over today for Christmas so still no progress. Hopefully after church tomorrow,
Kurt H.
The furball cockpit decals really help a lot. I have a hard time painting instrument panels.
phantom
Yeah, they make it pretty easy! Going WITH the instructions. And the main body on.
phantom
These Academy Phantoms take a LOT longer to build then the old Hasegawa kits. here is the bottoms thus far.
phantom
The last of the major parts. Next comes some paint and the detail stuff.

phantom
And here we go. First the VF-143 bird....... Along with its stable mate.....
phantom
Then the VMFA-314 bird.....
Spectre711
Nice!
Thadeus
Awesome! Love that VMFA-314 jet. Makes me want to go and grab one from the LHS. That's a lot of bombs... were all of them in a single kit?
phantom
THanks, actually no. The bombs are the combined amount from the two kits! This way I also had enough decals for the bomb striping using the kit decals.
