Academy 1/72 Super Etendard

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am currently building the Academy 1/72 Super Etendard Kit.

Build Summary

This kits original molds are quite old - if my information is correct - it dates back to 1983. It is based on a kit from a company Sunny-Tri. For its age I must admit the detail is very good.

Although this kit is almost complete at the time I am writing this, the goal was to complete the kit OOB with spare seat belts PE. I have nearly done this. I did scratch build the detail in the front wheel well, as there was none there and a seam I could not remove, so I covered it in detailing. The kit has no cockpit detail, and I did not add any either, it does have a HUD display.

The kit was painted with Humbrol enamels. I did preshade with Tamiya Enamel XF-1. And some post shading was done as well by just lightening one of the dark colours with thinner.

Panel lines were done using a Copic Multiliner Pen with a 0.05mm tip in Sepia Colour - I wanted to keep the panel lines a bit lighter. Rivets were given a wash with Tamiya Panel Line Accent. Wheel wells were washed with Vallejo Weathering wash brown.

The Build

The build begins with the cockpit, which like I said earlier has no detail.

Wheel wells painted with Tamiya Enamel X-11 Silver

Camo Pattern painted with Humbrol 145 (lighter shade) and Humbrol 125 Darker shade. I will point out that the instructions here are incorrect they call for the opposite colours to be painted as in Humbrol 145 is the darker shade and 125 as the lighter shade.

Front wheel well was detailed with some wiring and plastic sheeting. Vallejo Weathering wash brown was added to the wheel wells

I first did the panel lines with a Copic Multi liner pen Sepia with a 0.05 tip for all panel lines on the top. For the bottom I used a Copic Multiner Pen 0.02mm tip with Cool Grey colour. This was done straight on top on the dried enamel paint.

I then Gloss coated with Pledge Floor Care. Some weapons and pylons added. I let the gloss coat dry for 2 days and began decaling.

I painted the lights on the end of the wings with Tamiya Clear Green and Red. I have then just gloss coated the model again with Pledge Floor Care. I have also added the seat with PE Seatbelts.

There was a gap between the canopy and the fuselage. This was filled with Tamiya 2 part epoxy putty - as it gives me time to mold it into the correct shape, and then painted once it set.

I will wait for this to dry and then matte coat it to give it a sheen like finish, and add the canopy.

I hope you all enjoyed the post the kit should be completed in the next few days. As always all comments welcome.
