typhoon1
Hi There Wonder if someone could please help with the colour reference for the training Sidewinders carried by the Swiss Air Force F-5E. I don't know if there is two types carried but the only reference I have for one type is light brown body, wood brown front body, red front fins and dark earth missile tip. The other version has a blue band in it. Many Thanks Craig
typhoon1
These training sidewinders where also carried by the F/A-18 Hornets but these had blue in them. Kind Regards Craig
GW8345
Do you have a picture of the Sidewinder you are asking about, I've never heard/seen of a CATM-9 painted " light brown body, wood brown front body, red front fins and dark earth missile tip". I thought the Swiss used the same Captive Sidewinders as the US, all the CATM-9's I've loaded were either overall FS 35109 or grey with a FS 35109 on the warhead and rocket motor. These were CATM-9M's going back to the mid 80's.

Perhaps he was talking about these: http://www.airpics.net/UserFiles/pics/medium/J-3005-Northrop-F-5E-Tiger-II-Swiss-Air-Force/19050/19036m.jpg http://www.worldwide-military.com/Military Aircraft/US Fighters plaatjes/Groot/F-5 Tiger II Swiss.jpg http://c8.alamy.com/comp/E4F02J/a-northrop-f-5e-tiger-of-the-swiss-air-force-at-sion-airport-switzerland-E4F02J.jpg https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/northrop/images/f-5f_j3201.jpg I've often wondered about this "orange-ish" (your light brown body) color myself as I've also seen them on Swiss Mirage IIIs. Also, some of the Sidewinders seem to be in Dayglo Orange: https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/swiss-air-force-f-e-tiger-iis-formation-over-alps-ii-multirole-fighter-seen-here-operation-86616659.jpg http://www.airpics.net/UserFiles/pics/large/J-3033-Northrop-F-5E-Tiger-II-Swiss-Air-Force/19050/19034l.jpg Edited February 7, 2018 by JackMan
typhoon1
Hi JackMan There the sidewinders I am on about I took the above paint referances of a 1/48 th kit that's what they said about the colours which I'm thought strange. Many Thanks Craig
Mstor
Those are some strange colored Sidewinders, and the forward fins look like they're purple. Odd.
GW8345
I have no idea, never seen a Sidewinder painted like that in all my years.
MoFo
I suspect that the former is what happens when the latter becomes heavily faded.
