F-16 Posted February 14, 2018 Share Posted February 14, 2018 I am doing a 1/48 Eduard F6F-5 Hellcat in the markings of VF-46. I have the superscale sheet #481239. Superscale VF-46 Hellcat What I need is help with the markings. I noticed the ones on the Superscale sheet do not have the number "2" for the fuselage or the nose. Is this correct? The only picture I found on the net was this one... I can't tell if there are any "fuselage" numbers or not. Wasn't it standard practice to have the "number" on the fuselage/nose as well as the tail? Plus, is the checkerboard markings on the aileron on the bottom as well? Can anyone help with researching the markings for this plane? More photos would be extremely helpful. seawinder Posted February 16, 2018 Share Posted February 16, 2018 I found a photo of a TBM-3 of VT-46 (USS Independence) with the same checkerboard tail motif. It has a plane number on the side of the fuselage to the rear of the cockpit, but no small number that I can make out on the engine cowling. BTW, in the photo you posted, the right edge of the "3" on the fuselage is just visible. The book states that the checker design was on both top and bottom surfaces of the starboard aileron.
