anj4de
Hello all While waiting for decals and parts for the 144 stack I started to work on the Tamiya Shuttle wreck I bought 2nd hand for just 8EUR. The model practically fell apart since the previous builder (thank god) had pre-painted all the parts and was using a crappy glue and sparsely. 30 min and all parts were in the box. anj4de
...ok...so the test with the pictures worked! :-) Next I gave the parts a two day bath in "Drano" which took care of all the paint and old decals. After that was done I started to re-assemble the base structure. I found out that the kit was missing one engine, so I ordered sprue F and in addition also the new sprue H and the decals from a German dealer who stocks Tamiya spares. Each sprue was 7EUR and the decals I think were 15EUR together. Delivery time...2 days! The glas part has a scratch that I did not get out. The inside is polished already and treated with Future, the outside is sanded smoth with the fuselage and will be polished later. I am debating if I shall install a little light inside? What I find curious is the position of the fwd pay load bay bulk head, it stand out at the top so that the cargo bay doors can rest on it. That looks ugly and is not authentic. Is the fwd edge of the pay load bay really tilted fwd in such a strong angle? I have to study more pictures of the real thing I guess. ..that's the status right now. The goal is to represent the Shuttle as STS-114...for this I also still need an ESP-2 module infront of the supply container...which is part of the new H sprue, that I can only recommend to every old Tamiya shuttle owner. This sprue has the late ISS supply load and also has the 2nd robo arm and the comms antenna dish on the starboard side of the cargo bay. I will keep you posted once progress has been made... cheers Uwe Edited March 3, 2018 by anj4de
