strikeeagle801
Hey guys. I'm wondering what color I should paint the inside of the exhaust cans on a Tamiya F-14A. The pictures I see are kind of inconclusive as to they should be tan or white. Any better pics/advice? Aaron
airmechaja
There's a pretty good pic in the Lou Drendel "In Action" book of a TF 30 engine but calling it tan or white is speculation. It's hard to tell.
Darren Roberts
I usually start with Light Gull Gray and add dark brownish/blackish streaks. I think in the end there isn't any "accurate" color. This is a horseshoes/handgrenades situation. Close is good enough.
GW8345
The inside of the TF30 Afterburner section was coated with a light tan ceramic coating, over time it turned lighter but was still tan.
scotthldr
I personally would go with something along the lines of 33531 'Sand' to start with then weather as you see fit.
Fly-n-hi
I start with white. After all of the weathering it ends up being a dirty brownish color anyway.
BillS
I could be wrong here as my memory aint perfect but the TF30 didnt have that ceramic coating. I had 2 ‘111s in my test squadron and looked up the back end of those numerous times along with loads ofF-14As and I recall just a grayish, tanish metallic look. No question augmeter liners and nozzle inner flaps on P&W F-100 and GE-110s definately were almost white when new and stayed pale greyish tan even with use. If you really want to be pendantic, put a little puddle of oil at the bottom of your F-110 flame holder because that rear bearing leaked. On start up there was often a great cloud of white smoke as a result!
