Collin
You can see my build in the in-progress section. As a naval aviator I’m used to white landing gear and wheel wells. Instruction call for aluminum gear legs and wheel bays. Just trying to confirm. Thanks Collin
modelguy2
Depends on the plane/time really. I painted my bays dark gull and gear white for what its worth
Paul Boyer
Don't know for sure, but most modern U.S. jets have white wells and gear.
dnl42
There's a walk around at prime portal that shows white and gray.
Collin
Found part of my answer. White gear. I'm just going to go with white wheel bays as well. http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Marines/Northrop-F-5F-Franken-Tiger/1998004/L http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Marines/Northrop-F-5F-Franken-Tiger/2669068/L?qsp=eJwtjcEKwjAQRP9lz16KWKW3%2BgN68AeWzVADsQm7K1hK/71p8DbMPN6sJHl2/Py1FNBABlZ504kKK3%2BMhpUUUzRX9pjnUfzLqXLXvrvc%2BspZVr8vtQnsGEVQHOHfPzRAjwkmTTnVi64G6LNlOh%2BKEK0kbg44x0TbtgMubDHZ Looks like before the repaint she had alum landing gear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDBKymnSMnc Cheers Collin Edited March 22, 2018 by Collin
Mstor
Watched the YouTube video. I never knew the F-5 extended its nose gear like that for takeoff. Learn something every day!

The inside of the gear and speed brake doors are aluminum too, except for the nose gear door, which is white. You can see it in the pics of that Snipers F that you posted. HTH, Fred K. Collin
I'm slapping the table and going with what f5guy says above. Thanks a ton. Collin
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
By chance, I happened to photograph a VMFT-401 F-5 back in 2007. In this case it was aluminum gear and wells, though the mainwheel hubs were white. No idea about the nosegear, here are the 3 photos I got, and I do recall looking into the wheel wells to see aluminum wells.

Collin There certainly does seem to be some variation between the aluminum and white, although the combo that I mentioned in my first post seems to be the most common. However, Andrew's pic shows otherwise. Attached is a pic of a Sundowners jet that I shot back in September of last year. HTH, Fred K
