I am pretty well along with this. It's basically OOB with the exception that I have to

find decals for it, I want to do a Marine Cobra from OIF in 2003. It's not all that bad a kit,

I'm not going through all the fuss to fix the exhausts, not a contest or museum quality build,

just to get back into helicopters. Here's where I am at so far.---John

Added skids and engine intakes-exhausts.I am not permanently attaching rotor, if I ever

move or store it I want to remove the rotor. It's almost ready to paint, I am leaving the gun

turret and weapons pylons off for ease of masking the two tone gray scheme. Who makes

after market decals for a Marine chopper circa 2003 OIF? Thanks---John

Thanks, I painted the exhausts, built the rocket pods, pylons and the missiles are painted

black. I'll probably start my next Marines project before this is done, still need to order paint

and find decals. Next one is the old Matchbox 1/72 AV-8A Harrier.---John

Thanks for the ideas, masking and stenciling might be tough, I have no airbrush and

it's a bit above my rattle can skills. Sounds interesting though. I have some lo-vis

national markings, stars and bars, I'll find MARINES somewhere I am sure.---John

OK I'm starting to catch on. The picture I posted above is HMLA-267 Stingers

in 2003. I know my carrier units real good, VF and VMF stuff but am not well

educated on Marine light helicopter units. So if that Caracal sheet does come out

in 1/72 all I really need is to cobble up an NS, or is it SN , for the tail boom. Thanks again for

the enlightenment.---John

That bird is 169 not 267. If you look at the engine cover its an Iron Cross (169) not a Spade (267). The tail code for 169 is SN. 267 is UV. I would look at 169 photos as I think the other side of the tail would be stacked differently.

Thanks, you said something before about an Iron Cross. The glare at the top of

the iron cross still looks like a spade to me but the tail code is NS and you're the

Marine not me. Thanks again.---John

One more question, you said that birds 169 not 267, an Iron Cross is on 167, huh?

Is it 169 or 167? Or is 167 and 169 the same?---John

I picked back up on this, got a few wing things out of the way.

I decided to go with the 19 shot rocket pod on the pylon

closest to the fuselage and 2 Hellfires on the outermost

rack one above the other, inner Hellfire rack will be empty.---John

Ready to paint. I'm doing it overall light ghost gray. That will be the

bottom color and primer. Then I'll spray the top dark ghost gray.---John

A question on Tamiya tape. Years ago it wasn't a good idea to

leave masking tape on as it would almost glue itself to the object

and needed to be scraped off. The dark ghost gray will be a few

days to a week to come in, I don't want to remove the canopy mask.

Hopefully Tamiya tape isn't like the old masking tape of years ago.---John

I have all the painting done. The light and dark ghost grays

are really close, hardly distinguishable. On to finish building.

The only hang up will be finding decals, still surfing the web.---John

Assembly and paint done except for tail skid. I had to scratch

build one from copper wire. Then I need to scour the web a bit

more thoroughly for decals.---John
