Nanook
So, as this is the year of the SoD clean-up, I pulled this 'gem' from the pack. This is the original 1966 Craft Master release. I got it as a freebie thrown in on a purchase a while back. It was started and rough. I got the seams cleaned up after much putty and sanding. The prior builder used a combination of Squadron Green Putty and super glue for the seam work. Also, the nose had been chipped to the point that they added some super glue and styrene to rebuild it. I trimmed that, puttied it and cleaned it up. That's where she stands. Our very own Ken J. was kind enough to answer my call for decals. I am using an option from the Italeri kit. I just have to source the upper wing roundels from my spares. I think some 1/48 single-engine fighter roundels ought to work. I test-fit the wings to the fuselage. The fit is so good that I will paint it sans wings and then glue them on when it's finished. Much easier to mask off the camo pattern! Sadly, I also discovered that I’m missing one of the ailerons for one of the rear horizontal stabs. So now I am on the hunt for one. Later, Lee

CaptainObvious
I love SOD rescues! She looks like a lot of work. Fight the good fight Lee. I'm along for the ride.

Thank you, sir! I have the spare part coming my way. Actually, it's an entire kit LOL! I'm going to vacuform a copy of both missing parts and then create my missing elevator from them. That way I don't ruin a complete kit for them. I'll have an update soon! Later, Lee
dogsbody
The engine centre casings should be a semi-gloss black. Chris

Nanook
So, when you are missing the elevator to a kit what do you do? Vacuform copies of the parts from a spare kit! Thanks to a fellow member of my local club I was able to do just that and start moving forward again on my 1/72 Airfix Short Stirling build. It gets pretty straightforward from here. Nanook
Well, success has been achieved! The green side had a slightly better/thicker copy so I placed it topside. I had to use a bit of Mr. Hobby Dissolved Putty for the weakest areas and on some of the seams. Overall I am pleased with the results. One more SoD kit saved and moving forward.
