GRAIL007
So I used Mr. Hobby - Mr. Super Clear over Gunze colours for a Macross model and this happens: https://ibb.co/hxUYs7https://ibb.co/j0BeX7 Any Idea? Edited April 1, 2018 by GRAIL007 Spelling
GRAIL007
The funny thing is the majority of the pieces that were top coated didn’t have any issues, just select pieces. I can’t find a pattern
dnl42
Might that part have been oily from handling? Did you see any difference in appearance or sheen while you were airbrushing the clearcoat?
GRAIL007
The top coat was from the can, and no visible difference when it was sprayed. Probably too “hot” for the underlying paint. My problem is I can’t predict what will be affected.
gb_madcat_sl
When you say you used Gunze, did you mean Gunze’s lacquers or acrylics aka aqueous? Mark
GRAIL007
I was using Aqueous for this one

Sometimes Gunze Aqueous base color coats remain tacky for several days, based on my own experience.
GRAIL007
That would make sense, as it was over 24-48 hours but not much more. It was only select areas that were affected, and all pieces were prepped the same way. I’ll give them a week to dry and see if that helps. Thanks!

Mr Hobby Super Clear is lacquer based while the Aqueous paint you used is water based. Lacquer based paints are “hotter” than water based ones and will react with them. Best to use a water based clear coat. Mr Hobby has one in a can called Topcoat. http://www.mr-hobby.com/en/itemDetail.php?iId=266 Hope this helps! Mark
