Kurt H.
I sanded the putty. I also re-masked the canopy since the tape was starting to get a little chewed up and after a coat of primer ... more work is required . 😩 I will pick it up again next time. It does get a bit frustrating going round in circles with one part.
Kurt H.
I have gone round and round with this canopy so many times I lost track of whether the latest iteration of primer/sand repeat is current It still is not quite the way I would like, but If I want to finish on time, I have decided to move on and leave it so, here is where I stand Other than the canopy I am pretty proud of the seamwork on the rest of the model Now I am trying to decide whether to use Floquil silver paints, or Alclad for the finish. I might paint the airframe with an over all coat of Old Silver, then differentate different panels with Alclad shades, and Model Master Metalizer.
Kurt H.
Finally ... Paint I decided on Floquil Bright silver as the base color I dropped the model while painting and the stab fell off, so I painted it separately with the tanks and gear doors In case you are wondering, The Floquil bright silver was thinned with Testors enamel airbrush thinner until it was a little less than the consistency of milk, airbrushed with a Badger 100lg at about 20 psi. I did have to really hose it on to get the paint to go on smooth. This is an enamel, so it will probably take a few days to dry fully.
Kurt H.
I had hoped to post an update with more paint, or at least some masking porn today, but it was not to be. The paint feels dry to the touch, and there is no smell of paint, which suggests the paint has dried. I started masking a panel today, however while handling the model, my fingers felt like they were sticking to the model ever so slightly, which suggests to me the paint is not quite totally dry. I set the model aside and will check it again in a day or two. Edited August 23, 2018 by Kurt H.
Kurt H.
I got a start framing in the masking. The paint still felt a little sticky, so I stopped here. I will check it again in a day or two.
Kurt H.
I was away on a business trip for a week. I picked this model up this morning and it is still ever so tacky. It is summer in Northern VA so that means high humidity. I do not foresee finishing in time, but it was fun to try. I will keep pushing, but with two weeks left I do not feel optimistic. Kurt H.
The group build might be over, but I am not done. I hate to have a model go to the shelf of doom and rot there. I was making fast progress with this one so I am going to push it forward. At this point, the goal is to have an attractive shelf model, the canopy got away from me, and the silver paint is a bit rough. After months, the Floquil silver paint is nice and dry. I painted a few panels with different colors. The gun panel is dark anodonic gray metalizer, which was a total ordeal, and the fuselage panel is AK Extreme metal Duraluminum. and the center part of the wing, with Alclad dark aluminum. It is not much of a different shade but it does add a bit of variation the next task is to mask the yellow stripe. The yellow stripe is on the decal sheet, but I can never get a decal like that to look good. till next time ... Edited August 23, 2018 by Kurt H.

Kurt H.
This kit has a decal for the fuselage stripe, and insturctions for the Yellow stripe on the wings, so I will have a go with the revell decal for the stripe, and when I am in a masking mood I will mask the wing stripes. Any way, I bought a fancy new light for my photo rig, and I figured this would be a good model to test it with Looks better than my previous set up. I will get a new backdrop next, so it will not be so wrinkly
Kurt H.
I painted the yellow stripes on the wings. First, I masked, then painted a white base with MM flat white It took a few days to dry, but I was able to paint the yellow tonight I did not quite get the tape straight. it is not too bad, I might be able to fudge it with the black strip decals. Even though I stuck the tape to the palm of my hand to reduce the tackiness, I pulled up some of the alclad on the wing panel. I will need to wait years for the yellow to dry any way. I will fix it when I pick this one up again.

Kurt H.
In his song "That's Life" Billy Preston sang "If it ain't one thing, It's another" ... and this is the first thing I heard in my head after the events depicted in this update occurred. I masked the area around the chip in the Alclad to re-spray it... The re-spray went well, you can still see there was a chip if you look closely, but it looks better ... then this happened: Ugh .. seriously? Oh well, I will deal with it, but it is frustrating. Kurt H.
I want to finish this model, so I decided to touch this up. First, I sanded the edges of the chip to try and smooth the edges, and masked the area.. I made sure to stick the tape to the palm of my hand to de-tack the tape to prevent more incidents I wanted to paint the yellow, but I figured I should not take a short cut, so I sprayed some more flat white when this dries I will apply more yellow
Kurt H.
And through the magic of the passage of over a year, I present The completed model: I have made an effort to finish up kits from the shelf of doom, and this one just needed decals and final assembly. Thanks for looking
