CD48140 & CD48141 - 1/48 F-35A & F-35B

Recommended Posts

CD48140 will be a new 1/48 sheet for the F-35A, designed for the Meng kit. It will replace my earlier F-35A/B sheet (CD48049), which is about to be sold out.

It will include markings for all current F-35A operators:  USAF (multiple units), Australia, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Norway and Turkey.

CD48141 will be a similar sheet for the F-35B, designed for the Kitty Hawk kit. It will have markings for every USMC unit operating the type, RAF and Italy.

PS: The original forum thread for this sheet had disappeared - I don't recall deleting it. In case it was deleted by a moderator because of an argument, etc.; I sure want to know the story - please drop me a line if you know what happened.

Could I suggest that you substitute 5087 with 520x as 5087 has been done already please? Also the number styling on these 520x-series is out of the normal making for more uniq markings?

And 5145 with 5148, 5149 or 5150 as these are the first F-35A's flying in Norway with 332sq?

I am open to making these changes, but I need help finding out photos clear enough to show the crew names on the landing gear well doors if they have them. This design needs to be complete by May 16.

Checked the photos I have found of 5148, 5149, 5150, 5207, 5206 and 5205 and neither of these carry crew names either.

Well, OK; then. US modelers though have a crazy fetish  healthy modeling interest in crew names, and it would have been nice to include one with them.  Now if you can please get me a few nice shots showing the rounded styling of the 520x - series of tail numbers, I can draw them up very quickly.

PM inbound Kursad 👍

Hi Niels,

Thanks for the photos - these will help for the general proportions; but I still need higher resolution ones if possible. My advanced Norwegian language Web search skills (basically typing "Norge F-35" or "Norsk F-35" in full speed) did not yield anything very useful, maybe you will find something better.

PS: I think I mostly got it right - while this should be OK for 1/48 and 1/72 scale, some high-resolution photos would still help to get the typography absolutely right.

I'd be up for a sheet,my son works at Hill AFB and applies the RAM coatings and the markings on the F-35A's(He's with the 419th ),I've been waiting for Hill markings besides the 34th boss bird that come in the kit. The jets that just came back from the Pacific region  are getting the squadron markings updated/reapplied. Unfortunately, the folks at Hill aren't hip on photos being taken on the line or hanger or he'd probably be taking walk arounds of every jet.

Cool, it has just been revealed that 5205, 5206 and 5207 will be delivered to Norway in the next few days weather permitting 🤩 😍👍

Excellent new shot here that clarifies the geometry of the new style Norwegian digits.

The F-35A sheet will be part of the next batch coming in late December/early January.

It will be coupled with a separate, new F-35A/B stencils sheet which will also be available as a Caracal Models Basics item.

The 4th and 34th FS both have tail flash or whatever they're calling it for a while now. I saw them first probably around the early spring. I dont know if the 466th FS has something on their one marked jet.

If I remember right, the 466th jet has it's diamond markings fin flash like their F-16's did, same length as the 34th,421st,and 4th fin flashes. Also, the new 388th Boss Bird has black shadowing for markings on the tail,I seena pic of this jet by a photographer out of Ft. Worth a week or so ago,my son saw it in one of the hangers as well at Hill and was thrilled to see something different than the usual gray markings, even though it was black.

Any chance these make it to 1/72 scale since your first 1/72 sheet is sold out?

Yes - I will definitely scale this down to 1/72 sometime before summer and replace the old F-35A/B sheet with two new sheets.
