Academy 1/48 phantom assembly question

I am beginning major assembly of my very first Academy Phantom. In this case, the F-4B. I am to the point of assembling all the guts inside the fuselage, step 5. The instructions would have you install the burner cans before closing up the fuselage. With any other Phantom I have built, the burner cans are among the last things I install.  Does the design of the kit allow you to install the burner cans later?  If not I will need to paint them now, and it would make for difficult painting and masking.

I just went with the instructions and painted everything before assembly. It worked.

If you look at my build in the group build that fell apart, Mig Killers, you will find that I put them on towards the end of the build.
