Monogram 1/72 EF-111 Raven Prototype

Recommended Posts

A back to basics build of the old Monogram 1/72 EF-111 Raven in the marking of AF66-041 2nd prototype.

For the build I did a full rescribe of the panel lines.  Something I’d never attempted before and I’m proud of the results.  No aftermarket was used as the markings came from a Hasegawa EF-111 kit so too for the fuel tanks and wing pylons.  Paints were mostly Xtracrylix, Model Master and Tamiya.  Light weathering done with Windsor & Newton oils, charcoal powder and Alclad Blue hot metal highlights on the exhausts.  An enjoyable build.

Thanks guys for the comments.  Was a pleasure to build this kit.  I'm a fan of unusual aircraft markings such as test and evaluation aircraft hence why I chose this scheme even though it does have the standard two tone grey colours of the production aircraft.  I plan to build the Hasegawa kit with the markings of the same aircraft but later on in 1979 when it was with the 4485th Test Squadron and included day glow orange panels on the nose, tail and wings.  Will be interesting to compare how the Hasegawa kit builds up.
