22left
I have been building model airplanes for decades and have always had problems with engines snapping-off the wings after construction. It is very frustrating and has ruined many models especially when the engines get lost and the models are left with an empty pylon. Am I the only modeler who has lost engines ? Decals peeling-off is another frustration but now I notice even snap together models from Hogan or Herpa, also lose engines. I treat my models well but sometimes I just lose the engines. Is this common? None of my friends build or collect models so I have nobody to ask.
southwestforests
To troubleshoot the decal thing, what is your decal application process, starting with preparation of the model's surface?
mhvink
Where abouts are you located? You may want to look for a local model club, their help and friendship could be invaluable. Many modeling forums and even IPMS have local club information. Mike
le_boz
Hey, For the Engines, I never had issues so far, unless the fall the shelf, or were mishandled during relocation. But maybe I have been lucky so far. For the pealing decals, I normally apply a clear coat once the model is finished. I hope this help, Cheers, Boz
crackerjazz
Pins might help, like in this article from David Aungst: http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/attachingordnanceda_1.htm
Trojan Thunder
I have only had issues once of engine pylons failing and that was with a Revell KC10. I still have the model and intend to replace the kit pylon with a more solid scratch built pylon You could reinforce the pylon with some sort of rod before assembling and then pin it to the wing as per the article @crackerjazz mentioned
