JohnReid
After their first flight at Kitty Hawk, the brothers realized that more experimentation and flying skills were required to make a real success of their design. They moved back to Daytona but due to the lack of wind and ground effect at Huffington field they invented the catapult devise to help them get into the air. They also built the first aircraft hangar there and the first airport ( later to become the Wright-Patterson AFB.) The shed was unique in that the aircraft was slid in sideways with the tail and nose removed.

JohnReid
Between the two vertical posts is what is called a reveal the only area left open for viewing.

It is a Model Expo kit that I modified to become a Wright/Curtiss backyard Flyer. Edited August 17, 2018 by JohnReid
Ol' Scrapiron
I photographed the Wright Flyer III in Dayton this summer, which I believe used some of the components from the Flyer II (after they burned much of the II). Your diorama is an impressive project and I look forward to following your progress.

JohnReid
The camera really distorts the image, I guarantee the reveal opening is square. The right side is the finished walnut planking and I am just starting the L/H side. Because the rest of the walls are grey I thought that the viewing side should have a more finished look. JohnReid
The shed as it stands now is a little off center to the base but this gives you a general idea as to where I am now.
JohnReid
I took a break from the Flyer for a while to do some pic taking before winter sets in here in the GWN. I have removed the front wall to make it easier to work on.
