Darren Roberts
I did this as a speed build to see how long it would take to finish a Tamiya Tomcat. I clocked in at 17 hours and 15 minutes. It is such an easy build! I used Hitaka paints and an old Yellowhammer sheet for the VF-2 markings.
okthree
Wow... finished in just over 17hrs. If I can finish my Tomcat in 18 months and it turns out as nice as yours, I’ll be happy. How owe did you like the Hitaka paints? Since SB has started to carry the line I’ve been tempted to give the paint a try.
Whiskey
Wonderful looking Cat Darren, I imagine we could see these being pumped out as fast as your Monograms now?
Peterpools
Darren Looks might fine and in only 17 hrs and 15 minutes ... incredible. Takes me that long to find the model room on any given day Peter
CaptainObvious
Hi Darren, Speed build indeed! 17 hours is crazy fast. Awesome results too!
Mstor
17 hours?! It takes me that long to open the kit box and look at the parts and instructions. Well done Darren. Looks real nice.
my favs are F`s
For that time frame it looks flawlessly built! I especially like the moderate weathering and how shiny the nozzles are.
Slartibartfast
How does that time compare to building Monogram or Hasegawa? Lovely grime patterns.

I've never timed myself on a Monogram build. I'd probably have to say that the Monogram kit would take longer because of all the filling and sanding that needs to be done. Parabat
Fantastic work, I love the scheme, it has always been an aspiration since seeing the scheme in the Squadron walkaround book.

That's exactly why I wanted to do this scheme. I've been hanging onto the Yellowhammer sheet for years waiting to do it. I figured the Tamiya D was the perfect opportunity. Swashplate
Top notch work for sure. At 17 hours, I would have still been cutting parts of the Sprue tree. Amazing!
EagleAviation
Great work for only 17 hours! Well done!
Fighting Eighty-Four
17 hours or 17 months, this is still a beautiful build Darren. The fact you built this in such a short time is a testament to both your skills and the marvel that is the Tamiya Tomcat kit. I have only one word for you... Noooooooice!!!!!!!
