Brett M
Looks great with all the little details you've added. Definitely will be something to see once you get into final paints.

blakeh1
Wow! so much fine detail
blakeh1
I think my favorite aspect of your work is that the greeblies look like they have a purpose and are functional in some way rather than just randomly planted on. They also don't ruin the scale of things
Brett M
Now....since I saw you were commenting on a lit SD on Starship.......going to run fiber everywhere too? :)
The Madhatter
Thanks guys Brett, yes, there will be fibre optics, and a lot of it. I have about 30 feet of it ready to go, and no doubt I'll need more! 😁
The Madhatter
Hey guys Thought I would show you where I am up to on this before I go on a well deserved holiday for a few weeks. I've only really just started but it's not a race. I probably won't take any more pics now until the bridge is finished Hopefully the cutting board will help some of you convey a sense of scale as well The first set of pics are the walls for the bays underneath which are present on the filming models. I thought that was a cool feature so I did the same, except I opened up another one that wasn't there. All for my own personal tastes Well, that's me done, but if you have any questions or comments or critique, I am always open to it As always, thanks for looking in Si

The Madhatter
Thanks guys I got back from holidays and took possession of my new hangar bay set from greenstrawberry and the turbo lasers from shapeways whwn i got home. Im mixing the GS PE set with the Falcon set to get a better detailed bay. So far so good. Will post some pics once I've actually done something worth while showing

The Madhatter
hi guys It's been a while since I last updated this thread, so time to do so. I have finished detailing the bridge and am about ready to start adding the fiber optic threads and then get it all sealed up. The main hangar bay has also been started. I have used a mix of Green Strawberry PE and Falcon resin parts as well as some strip styrene here and there, with more to go in due course. The front hangar bay is the GS PE set and looks good. It's all lit, painted and ready to install So, less talking and more pics I say Starting with the hangar bays: I will try to meld the TIE fighter bay to the Falcon hangar section but it may not work do well. If not, I will need to scratch build it. I had a heck of a time mounting the SMD's as the wires kept coming off. They are not the best quality SMD's I think Lastly, the bridge detailing is all but done. I won't be adding anything further to it. Once the paint goes on, it'll look much better and not so busy Well, that's all the pics I have for now. I am about to start on the neck area and garbage chute etc. I won't add too much detail here....well, maybe a little but not too much Feel free to comment, critique or suggest Thanks for stopping in and looking Till next time Si
mikkod
WOW...nice work! Question...do just put those extra bit randomly or do you have some kind of plan?
The Madhatter
Thanks Mikkod. There's no plan as such, it is pretty random, but I try to make them look functional as opposed to just being stuck on.
skyhawk174
Wow all that extra detail bits look great and would probably look even better once you get a coat of paint on it and then some washes and drybrushing. Thank goodness you have pictures of your under construction pieces. Also, I am pretty sure that the original model makers at Lucas films probably did exactly what you are doing back in 1977. A little bit of plastic here, a little bit of plastic there. Yup that looks about right 😁 Thanks so much for sharing and I am taking notes for when I have the chance to pick up this kit. The Madhatter
No worries Chris - thanks for the kind post. Happy to answer any questions you may have later when you get to do yours
The Madhatter
It's looking much more uniform now that the bridge has some paint on it. Started on the neck section The garbage chute is installed and has some red fibers on the inside Adding some details to the big antenna thing using some scrap PE bits Close up shows there's some clean up to do, but that won't be hard Anyway, thanks for looking Si
Trojan Thunder
Looks like there are more additions than the original kit parts Si, Your progress is great though especially the painted shots, I assume it is a base coat and some washes and dry brushing to get that effect?
The Madhatter
Thanks Ray No mate, no washed or dry brushing as yet. Its just the high contrast of the pictures that makes it look like that.

mikkod
Oh yes. It comes live after paint. Great job! Keep it up.

toadwbg
I'm going to start mine over Christmas break. What aftermarket add-ons do you feel are the most worthwhile?
