Alclad II - when to apply?

Recommended Posts

A question for the hive mind -

I want to pant the wheel wells on a Monogram 1/48 F-104 Alclad II Aluminum. If I paint it before the camouflage gray, I have to mask it and risk damaging it. If I paint afterwards, I have to lay down a primer that is compatible and risk overspray.

Thoughts?

Vern,

There are some colors and types of Alcad that you shouldn't mask over, but most such as Flat Aluminum (which I use 90% of the time), you can mask over without any issues. I mask with detacked Tamiya tape only.   I believe that the Alcad site has a full listing of the can and shouldn't mask colors.
