1/72 Hasegawa Grumman A-6A Intruder

Recommended Posts

Nice work on paint john.

I am interested in your painting and masking process. When I do a 2 colour scheme like this, I will mask the clear parts, spray the white areas, mask over the white and then spray the grey.

It looks like you mask up for the white, spray the white, removed the masking, mask over the white and spray the grey. It seems like extra work and an extra step and more tape needed?

You asked me this before. I have no airbrush and it's my way to do it.

I mask for the white then spray the white. Then remove the masks, mask

for the gray then spray gray. I am lost as to why you see this as hard or tape

consuming.I am currently using plastic wrap and paper templates also

as to cut down on tape. How would you do it with SPRAY CANS? And also

if I did it all white first I waste paint, which is expensive in cans, and I have

white frames inside the glass which is not suppose to be. It works for me

and that's all I can say. I am retired and have hours and hours to kill.---John

I obviously need to pay more attention John, I've been missing this till now, I do like what you're doing with this, the USN LGG/White schemes look great when done as nicely as you are. Some good tips too for the one I have in stock.

Steve.

Thanks to all for the kind words and tips. I appreciate the comments

and critique believe me. I am just trying to improve this kit in a simpler

and more frugal way, I don't have drill presses and milling machines

to do museum quality work. I would like to do that but then again who

in the hell is gonna see it here in my 55+ retirement place! I like scratch

building and not being locked in to tons of resin, PE, and expensive aftermarket

stuff. That and I have a life, I still work around the house, yard work and have

a family and grandchildren. Thanks again....rant off---John

No bombs, I am waaaayyyyyy behind on my group build entries and

I have had enough, this kit was OK but I am tired of fighting with it.

Constantly scraping and filing and opening holes or trimming to make

it fit. It's an old kit but I really wanted to finish at least one Intruder in a lifetime.

Can't say how many times I started one only to never finish!---John

I decided to add the bombs. It's going to be a slow process.

I painted them then noticed a huge seam running down each

side. I am sanding them, repainting then painting a yellow

stripe on the nose. So far I have 4 done and installed, the

easy ones on the MERs bottom. Now I have to make a fixture

to hold the plane on it's side, wing in a knife fashion, then add

the side ones. I also added the 2 antennas I cut off the bottom

fuselage. The kits were about a foot thick in scale so I scratch

built them from card stock. I'll repost new pics with old pics in

the Display Case already there.---John
