rotorwash
Charlie, I asked Dan about Arnold and he said: "All the UH-1s we flew in El Salvador had the full ASE package, to include the ALQ 144 and armored floor panels as well as the ARC-102 longline FM antenna on the tail.." I hope that helps. Ray

I second this. Never knew that they developed an armored floor package for the good old Huey.
rotorwash
I don't have pics of Arnold, but I assume the armor was similar to what you can see on the Department Of State 212 from 2009. Ray

midnightprowler
That floor plating must have added a fair amount of weight.

From Sam Boyer, a former Bell test pilot: "I flew one installed on a Huey II once and it amplified main rotor two per rev to pain threshold levels. Not certain getting shot at could have been as bad." From Mac McMillan, a current Bell maintenance pilot: "Some of the newer armored floor panels are really nice. They weigh less than the older armor we used in Vietnam and protect better. That said, a Huey II rigged out with armor for Brazil weights considerably more than the stock ship." I think Mac was probably talking more about the ceramic armor that was used in the seats. Or, since he was a Cobra driver about the armor panels in the G model Cobra. Chief Snake
1 hour ago, midnightprowler said: What does this mean? It is a term used to define the tracking accuracy of a main rotor blade. Tracking attempts to make the rotor tips travel in the same plane as they make a revolution. When the tracking starts to vary a little "bump" can be felt by the crew of the aircraft. A 1 to 1 rev is a very normal measurement. That is as the blade makes one full revolution the tracking difference makes one feel a bump, gentle, but a bump. What Mr. Boyer is referring to is that the weight of the armor panels affected the travel of the blades for some reason and caused the blades to increase the tracking plane to a level that was uncomfortable. snake36bravo
Looking forward to more progress images but then always am when your building Charlie. I empathize with you on the reason for building. It's what a wise one at the VA suggested to me as well. All images courtesy Dan 'Dangerpig 13' McClinton -- Just for clarification from the reference I built out when these first were shown, I thought Danger Pig and Arnold 347 were two different ships. rotorwash
Danger Pig was the general term they used for the Huey mission in El Salvador as best as I can remember. So Arnold was a danger Pig as well. Ray

Charlie I do have the other images Dan had posted as they were unique. Hopefully Dan will hop on to help. They aren't available in the other thread for some reason. I'm not sure how he feels about me posting his images or if they were pulled for possibly another reason.
