There are full reviews of the actual kit elsewhere on the web....... Ok, I thought it came with one. Rather had a MK. II, but the one will do. Now to find the first issue of FSM, as it had a very detailed write up on the MK. I in Chicago.

Jonathan_Lotton
I can't help but wonder if Tamiya is going to be revisiting their P-51 series with the Eduard kits due out next year...

Not yet, or I would have snapped it up. Probably not far behind though, they are usually a week or two behind Wings and Wheels.
skyhawk174
Yeah I almost pre ordered from HLJ or even Hobby Easy but I am thinking with the shipping I might as well stay local. No rush. I will probably call Hobby Wholesale in the morning and reserve one.
Atlis
Got mine too. It's a nice kit. If anyone would be interested how it looks next to Eduard's Mk.IXc:

I looked at one of the open box kits and the detail is outstanding and looks very simple to build too. Typical hallmarks of Tamiya kits.
ytsejam87
Is this a (small) step backwards for tamiya in 1/48? their gustav set a high bar by giving the modeler many more display options (with the cowls, engine and machine guns) than this does. Sure, it will build itself in the box, but it doesn't cry out to me like the gustav does.

They must have had some number crunchers look at the sales figures and decided that the Spitfire didn't warrant the increased tooling to provide similar income to the company. I will add that I like the comparison photos from the earlier post. I don't have the fondness for the multiple rivets molded in as on the Eduard products.
