ScaleWorx
Hi guys, I started scratch building a 1/48 SAAF Alouette III 20mm gunship conversion set, based on the ScaleWorx 1/48 Alouette III kit. Here's some work-in-progress pics. Cheers, John

Thanks 😉 Not much to report additional progress, but the MG151 cannon barrel being trimmed, the handles are done, as well as the gun sight and it's mounting bracket. They are just lying on the floorboard, because they will be cast as separate parts. The "Elephant ear" dust filters will also be part of the gunship conversion. I made them last month. A bit about the actual 1/48 Alouette III kit it's based on, is the ScaleWorx complete resin kit and is the only true 1/48 Alouette III kit. I don't recall ever posting the making of the masters last year, and thought I might as well post a couple of pics of that. The masters were not based on the 1/50 scale Fujimi kit besides the plates on the horizontal stabilizers (reshaped), instrument panel (corrected) and the landing gear. Nor the Heller 1/48 kit (actually 1/42 scale), besides a shorter modified section of the tail boom. The fuselage halves were made from surfboard foam, coated with resin, split in half, vac-formed and detailed. Vac-formed fuselage halves and first canopy test. Engine deck and bulkhead test fit. Bulhead detail Cabin interior test assembly. Most of the masters work in progress. The resin parts. Test assembled production kit. A review sample was sent out, and here's a couple of pics of the result. Here's some pictures from a modeler in Australia (his first complete resin kit built) that he turned the kit into a Rhodesian version. Cheers, John

DonSS3
Wow, that looks really nice, John. Way better than my poor old Fujimi kit.

ScaleWorx
Hey guys, It's been a loooong time since my last visit to this thread. Finished this project back in 2018. On 10/8/2018 at 4:52 PM, DonSS3 said: Wow, that looks really nice, John. Way better than my poor old Fujimi kit. Don, I have to agree. Besides the odd shape of the Fujimi kit, the scale is 1/50 and therefore too small for the 1/48 gunship conversion. On 10/8/2018 at 11:21 PM, midnightprowler said: Very cool. How much? I'll send you a PM 😉 I have also recently made the Rhodesian Alouette III twin .303 Browning G-Car conversion. Tank
Looks great John. Have you/postal service been able to open back up? Edited May 16, 2020 by Tank
ScaleWorx
Thanks Tank 🙂 We're still under level 4 lockdown, and they're now allowing local e-commerce only so far. Quite frustrating, considering building models keeps one indoors...
ScaleWorx
Something interesting about this .303 platform, is that a similar version of it was used on the Rhodesian Bell 205 "Cheetah". It was mounted inside the cabin on a rotating platform, but very few photos available of it. I only managed to find these 4 poor photos after hours of searching. And just found this nice one 🙂 Edited May 16, 2020 by ScaleWorx Image added
