Steven H. McLain
Does anybody know if the US Navy used recon Panthers in the Korean War? If so what were the squadron numbers? I am building Revells F9F-5P and would like to put Navy markings on it. Thank You

dnl42
According to this document, VC-61 detachments flew from PHILIPPINE SEA, VALLEY FORGE, and PRINCETON. Tail code PP. There's a USN film, The Eyes of the Fleet, that features them. In addition to the fine Ginter books, Grumman F9F Part 1 Development, Testing, Structures Naval Fighter Naval Fighters Vol 59, Grumman F9F Part 2 USMC Panthers Naval Fighter Vol 60, and Grumman F9F Part 3, Navy Panthers Korea and Beyond Naval Fighters Vol 61, there's also Osprey's F9F Panther Units of the Korean War.
