New Caracal Models Basics sheets

Recommended Posts

The following Caracal Models Basics sheets are coming in November:

CDB48002:  1/48 F-86 serial numbers :  Korean War era F-86 "buzz numbers (FU-xxx)", tail numbers and tail "US AIR FORCE" scripts; designed in the correct North American factory style based on many period photos

CDB48003:  1/48 T-33/F-94 serial numbers:  Early 1990's Lockheed style "buzz numbers" (TR-, FT-xxxx) , tail numbers and tail "US AIR FORCE" scripts

The buzz numbers were 15" high on F-86, F-100 and T-28; so the digits should work on them all.

This is why I bounce new sheet ideas here first - I knew that the same style was used on early F-100 and T-28's, but it did not occur to me to include the relevant prefixes. I will make sure there is at least one set of "FW-" and "TL-" prefixes so folks can use it on the F-100 and T-28, but I think most people would buy this for Korean War Sabres.

Excellent news. I had to use an expensive Icarus Decals T-33 sheet to piece together  the buzz number on my T-33 from the 357th FIS.

Kursad, I saw a reference to CDB46006 F-15E Data Markings in another post. How many Basics Sherts do you have ready / planned for the near future? Oh wait,  I just saw the six sets at the tail end of your 1/48 page. Keep up the great work! R/ Dutch

I don't know if it can be done, but 1/48 US National Insignia with white outlines outlines (full color).  Like for USN white/orange training birds.  What I do not know is if the white can be printed opaque enough to prevent the orange from bleeding through?  Nevertheless, I'd buy multiple sheets and double them up to prevent bleed through.

OK, I'm sitting here trying my best to do the Snoopy happy dance.  Fantastic additions to the Basics line Kursad.

Just a clarification on the “Vietnam War style” serials : this is the slightly thinner, wider variant that seems to have been common in the early 1960s when the SEA camouflage first appeared on USAF aircraft. The same style that you can see on the camo RF-101s in my latest recon Voodoo sheet (CD48147), for example. I think it is needed on a lot of different types for this period, and is different enough that a dedicated sheet would be nice. Let me know what you think.

What about a basics sheet for USAF squadron/wing patches and insignias?  Combined with your buzz number sheets, this would allow a ton of line jet builds for various eras.  I know this is broad in scope, but it could be tailored to specific wing/era.

Kursad,

Would you also consider MATS / MAC / AMC / Weather badges?  And ACC badge to go along with the TAC badges?  What about ADC also?  PACAF, USAFE, ATC, AFSC, Alaskan AC....  Much like the old out of print Microscale sheets, 72-187 USAF Command Insignia #1 and 72-190 USAF Command Insignia #2.  It seems to me that you have already done the artwork for all of these.

K/r,

Dutch
