LF:F-89J Scorpion 124th FIS. Pictures/Info

Recommended Posts

Hi There

Might be a long shot this but I am looking for pictures please and info on the former 124th FIS Iowa ANG F-89 Scorpions.

I am just getting back in to modeling and bought the F-89J kit it is very nice, but trying to find pictures is difficult, the main one I have seen is a flightline shot and it appears to have some pod under the wing about the same size as the wing pylon, would anyone please know whether ECM pods where carried by F-89Js like the AN/ALE-2 like carried by the T-33s.

Many Thanks

Craig

Several very excellent books I have since I am working on an F-89 also:

Squadron Signal, F-89 Scorpion in action #1104

Squadron Signal, F-89 Scorpion Walk Around #5561

Detail and Scale F-89 Scorpion  #41

Aero Fax, F-89 Scorpion

Schiffer Publishing, F-89 Scorpion

I saw photos of Iowa ANG in all of them

Yes.  There are several more in the book and a color profile.  That is the only one I remember with a pod.

Yeah, so far, that is the only picture that I could find with that pod mounted. There was no explanation of the pod in the picture caption. Being that the 124th was one of two of the last USAF/ANG units to fly the Scorpion (converted to the F-84F in 1969), I would venture a guess that it could be a prototype of a early counter ECM pod.....but that's just a guess.
