L-GREECO
Guys, help needed. Is there any ammo shells for 7.62 and 5.56 in 35 scale on the market?

I looked at the reviews, and the photo shows a lot of plastics Burr between the cartridges. It will be difficult to clean it. Thinking of printing on a 3d printer. I have photo etched belts from Eduard, but It looks too flat for me. This is a .50 cal belt from live resin. Edited September 9, 2019 by L-GREECO
L-GREECO
Hey guys! Here is my attempt to remake stock m60. There was no bipod on my Miss Mini prototype. Therefore, I cut off the barrel of the machine gun, sawed the top holes in the cooling grill, made a new barrel and gas pipe. For me, the result will look very shitty. Mostly because of the ugly and skewed cooling grill. The grill is very small, sawed it with a 0.15mm width photoetched saw. So now i'm waiting for my 3d printer. Will try to print that m60 and ammo belts. Hope it will works... And if it wiil, i will share the models with you so that you can use it too. Hope it will works... Hope it will works... Hope it will works...

Keep in mind that barrels were swapped quite often on the -60 so undoubtedly more than a few still had the bipod assembly attached. Don’t forget the c-rat can under the ammo feed! L-GREECO
Thanks! I know about barrels swapping. And I was thinking about adding couple spare barrels on the gunners bench. But don't know how many spare barrels they took on the flight and where they stored that barrels. And especially not sure can I print them or not... So I preying... Still preying... 😁 And what is the c-rat can under the ammo feed?

HeavyArty
If the 3D printing doesn't work out, Dragon has/had a Modern Machine Guns Set that includes 2 M60As with separate bipod legs that can be left off that has full barrel and gas tube details molded. All Dragon's Vietnam figure sets that include an M60 also have these same molds w/separate bipod legs. Any of them would work.

You are right and that website since it launched is pretty much static. Decades of the same stuff and same low-res images. The 6 Ps comes to mind. I digress. Yes on the use of the C-rat can for Miss Mini's DG/CE crew You will also need to scratch build the wooden box used for ammo for each door gunner. The spare barrels were kept under the troop seat on top of the feed tray for the M134 mini-guns centered underneath the troop seat. This unit did not use the firewall as spare storage and did not mount them behind the armored pilot seats like other units did. Spare barrels were NOT kept in their spare barrel bags with the asbestos glove. Spare barrels were out and ready to swap should the need arise. One thing you missed is the Bandits shaved the front sight post off the Pig, a term of endearment for us ragged souls that have hauled that fat sow up and down gulches, peaks, fingers, draws, deserts, snow, and where ever those in the know tell you to go. If there is one in a picture it is likely they are still breaking it in and its new. The standard is no front sight posts. That's what tracers are for, traverse, elevate, walk the rounds in. A good gunner doesn't need them in the air or on the ground. Refer back to this image and congrats on what is looking like a superb build.

Why would they have taken time to hacksaw off the front sight? I can see not using iron sights in the airborne role but what did they gain by cutting off the sight? A weight savings of a few oz? I had the misfortune of being briefly assigned the pig and although I hated it, it was great fun to fire. What I hated most was my previous stint as the a-gunner. That *#%*# tripod and spare barrel bag sucked to carry.
Michael A.
Barrels intended for use with the M16 Subsystem were manufactured and issued without the front sight. M60 barrels are all interchangeable and it is my best guess is this barrel has been repurposed from the M16 Subsystem for use on this M60, which is being used as door gun. Michael A. The only time I heard more b*tching was from mortar men and something about carrying base plates the poor bastards. To answer your question, the front sights were removed largely because when hot barrels were changed out, they were laid on the floor of the Huey. You couldnt set them on the seat as they would burn through it, no brainer. The front sight would often get fouled in the ammo belts or with extended com cables. Here's a special anecdote from one of the best gunship and Nighthawk pilots I ever met, Razorback 33: "Our armament specialist, John Wayne, removed the flash suppressors from the lightships M60s and replaced them with the bottom flared casings from Mortar rounds. This allowed the muzzle flash to become about 4 foot in diameter and reach out into a super sharp point about six or seven feet from the muzzle. A lot like a Buck Rogers Death Ray gun, I suspect. The reason behind this was a psychological one to be used against Charlie. When we would open up with the 60s at night while in contact, the suddenly increased light output was astounding. So much so that we noticed that Charlie would sometimes quit shooting because all of a sudden he didn’t know what he was up against. The sound was different and louder as well. Great fun!" snake36bravo
Here is an image that reflects the above statements for reference: This image shows the cabin on a Diamondhead gunship. The Bandits used pintle mounted 60s on Sagami mounts so there was not a need to install the limit of traverse bars seen on gunships with 'free' 60s, either bungeed or hand held There are 6 spare barrels with shaved front sights and 2 regular barrels with tripods and sights placed center of the seat, facing forward. The regular bipod-sight post barrels were to be used if the gunship went down and the door gunners needed to field their M60s in the traditional ground role. Note also the same wooden box which is setup for rounds used by the door gunners and a center box that contained the Willy Pete (White Phosphorous), M18 smoke, and CS grenades lobbed out the doors by the gunners to mark targets or rain down pain. I want to do something non-standard, like an open shutter lid. And only 3D printing in this case will help me. If not, I will buy the sets, Dragon, Bravo6, Tank, E.T. Model, they all have m60 models. You always come to my aid like an angel from heaven! I really appreciate it and want to thank you. And all of you guys who helps me with this build and just follow it. It means more to me than you can imagine. Gino, now i look at this photo and understand that I have the wrong m134 feed trays for my Miss Mini. And it's a pretty shitty thing... Ammo feed trays glued, bench glued, door gunner glued... Damn... I should remake it all. And i can't find any closeup photos of that wooden ammo box to recreate it. I planning to scratch build it with wooden sheets but don'tknow neither dimensions no shape. Sometimes I think that the Vietnam War is less marked in history than the World War II, and it is not fair...
snake36bravo
Alex, You have the correct setup! Note the Miss Mini image shows one feed belt because it was armed with the M134 miniguns while the 2nd image is from a Diamondhead gunship that was setup with M16 subsystem, basically quad-60s. You don't have to redo anything and it's right where it needs to be. The booster motors at the ends of each tray are supposed to be for your build of Miss Mini. Top notch. The M16 system uses slightly taller trays and the booster motor isn't attached to the tray like the M21 system. Glad to help. Otherwise I've wasted my life since the only other person in my life who shares my passion is my father and he's 76 this year. Once he's gone this will be my only outlet. Maybe this will help as well since you'll need to build the Sagami mount and Pintle. I used this for a 3D build I did of a UH-1C for Flight Simulator. I had to isolate the image so it's handy. That's a great detail pic, thanks very much for posting 36Bravo! Question - What's the rectangular plate under the seat? Almost looks like it's some field-expedient armor? I've always been more of a UH-1H fan, since that's the model that I (briefly) flew in before Blackhawks came into service but I'm starting to get an urge to build a Charlie model. Thanks again, Snake (wish I knew your name)! It's very handy! I have a couple of low resolution photos of Sagami, but yours one is my lifesaver. Almost all issues have been resolved. But i still have a couple. If you can post another pictures of that Sagami mount in different angles it will be great! And no need to isolate them, don't spent your time. Dragon is the best of these M60s. I have one from Vietnam Seals set, but it has too short barrel and there is only one m60 in that set. But I was looking towards Bravo6 M60. This one As for me it looks great. But i wrote Vladimir (Bravo6 manufacturer) and he said: "Not in stock, sorry!" Returning to the question "whether to buy Chinese copies or not" ... So my last hope now is 3d print it.
