phantom
Starting up two big models which will be massive conversions. Start with the Revell C-54. Add the Belcher Bits North Start conversion. One (late version) for a customer and (early) for me.
phantom
This is NOT your Revell kit of yore. This sucker has a bizzillion parts. Just the cockpits took most of an afternoon. Silly amount of detail for something that I highly doubt will be visible when the model is complete.
Els
Nice start with the cockpits. I have been wanting to build one of these so I will be very interested to see how your builds go.
dogsbody
I'll be watching this one. Always like Canadian content. This forum needs a " like " button. Chris
Kurt H.
2 C-54s? I have got to see how you pull this off.
phantom
Until I get to the conversion parts, THIS was the hard part I think. But I have till the end of January. It will happen. But nothing more till Friday.....unless I don't get OT on Wednesday.
phantom
Turns out I did not get overtime. This model is taking a LOT of time but is (so far) not as hard as I thought it would be. MANY very small parts. Had more then a couple go flying to the carpet monster. Fortunately I found them all.
phantom
Funny thing,. for all the very very nice detail in this kit I doubt much will be viable even with the doors open.
phantom
One body seems to have gone together perfectly. THe other needed some help and super glue. But should clean up just fine.
RCAFFAN
Larry Millberry's Northstar book is a good reference if you can get access to one.........You caught the window on the port rear that needs to be filled and believe there is a small one on the starboard behind the cockpit that should be filled too. There is a picture in the book that shows this. It is however a small window. Looking good so far....Dry fitting of the resin engines in my kit show a pretty good fit so build away Edited December 6, 2018 by RCAFFAN
Els
One of the reasons that I never bought this kit was because when I was at my LHS the size of the box led me to believe that it was a large kit. When I look at it compared to the bottle of Tamiya paint you have there it doesn't seem that bad.
phantom
Yeah, its not as big as I thought either. But the kit part count is VERY high. Lots of interior parts in this kit.
airmechaja
I'm going to hate to see this GB end. It gets more interesting all the time.
phantom
Ready to start cutting and applying Merlins over the radials.
phantom
Bunch of Merlins.. Edited December 8, 2018 by phantom
RCAFFAN
Before you go too far the underside "scoops" open to the rear: https://ca.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=Awr9J.2IrwxceRIAPWnrFAx.;_ylu=X3oDMTByNWU4cGh1BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=canadair+northstar+engine&fr=mcafee#id=13&iurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vintagewings.ca%2FPortals%2F0%2FVintage_Stories%2FArchivedStories%2FNorthstar30.jpg&action=click Just so you know........ phantom
Looking like airplanes now.
Kurt H.
I ended up with 3 of these kits since Caracals made so many sheets for it. You are inspiring me to start one of these.
RCAFFAN
Looks right now...keep up the good work
phantom
thanks. One major problem. Seem to be missing a horizontal stabilizer. Paint goes on....
Rick McPherson
I knew you couldn't wait. They are looking great. With all the interior parts, where did you use any weights or do the engines take care of that?
phantom
Could not wait on these two....it IS a Revell group build after all. There are 15 pennies and fishing weights stuffed into the forward bottoms. Seems heavy enough now. Rick, your plane is getting the good horizontal stabs. Hopefully I can find the missing one so I can finish mine. Otherwise.......have to create one. Edited December 11, 2018 by phantom
phantom
Good news, found the stab. Bad news. With the stabs on they are tail sitters again. I can fix that still. Props took an hour of ripping the blades of the American prop hub and fitting them to the Canadian aerodynamic hub Edited December 12, 2018 by phantom
phantom
I have reason to believe the red on the wings for the older version are bigger then on the later version. But I have yet to find real proof.
