F-16 Posted December 9, 2018 Share Posted December 9, 2018 Does anyone have any info on this "wingtip bomb" configuration on the P/F-80?"The P-80 wing tip incorporated a shackle from which to hang a jettison-able fuel tank or 1,000-lb bomb (the requirement to do both dictated its location under the wing; otherwise the tank would have been mounted in-line on the wingtip to maximize the end-plate effect)." I guess it was not practical for a P/F-80 to carry 4 500-1000lb. bombs. It would need JATO/RATO just to get off the ground. Not to mention the loss of range... Any further info?
